How can anyone on DU be more surprised than we already are?
Edited on Wed Oct-18-06 11:08 PM by babylonsister
This Karl Rove "October Surprise" is such b.s. Every day we read about another one (rethug, caught in a web of lies and deceit) biting the dust. When the public catches on to it/is informed, they will be really surprised, so that might be 'the big one'.
And who believes anything that might happen between now and Nov. 7 (short of Foley admitting to an affair with the blivet)is going to change the current perception? If a 'major event' happened now, who do you think everyone would blame? I think the biggest thing the repugs lost was any credibility they might have embraced.

1. I think the surprise is going to be that they willingly let go of power
and let the Dems try in vain to clean up their Godawful mess

3. That would certainly surprise me! Perhaps they're all secretly packing for
Paraguay.

8. It's logical, though
Let the Dems try to clean up six years' worth of mess, which won't happen in two years' time, and then squeal that "Democrats don't know how to govern!"

Just watch. It'll happen.

10. Yep. That's what I expect too
Also it fits *perfectly* with the Republican approach to taking responsibility -- that is, not doing so.

Maybe they figured they'll sacrifice 2 years of Congress for the 2008 presidential run.

Fuckers.

2. Do recall every one does not read what we do.
Many are turning in to Rush and Fox. Many will vote right out of what their church tells them to vote for. I know that is not right but I have heard it. If the churches are not doing it the people going to these Churches do not know it as they think they are told to vote in such a way. Also many will vote how they have always voted.

7. People do watch the news, and it's not Faux all the time, or their
numbers would be going up.
I think people are waking up and hopefully not liking what they're seeing.

14. And I would think some of it would rub off to them.. Things
change slowly just look at Vietnam. I sure hope the Dem. win this time and I do hope enough people are thinking about what is going on to move away from the GOP which is really going the wrong way. What has happened to that party? My whole family were in the GOP as I was but it is hardly the same as it was. I can recall IKe getting us out of Korea. Wars waste goods and no GOP of the old school liked that at all and for churches running things, I grew up in a home with folders of Church vs. state on the coffee table. Churches in the vote? That was really off the list.

5. Iran
Reuters reported that a naval exercise will be executed on October 31.http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20061011/pl_nm/security_gulf_exercise_dc_1

This is the perfect false flag operation that can start an all out war with Iran. It doesn't matter if it's an "October Surprise" because war with Iran is one of the neo-cons goals... election or not. In fact, they may want to get their war on before the election... because that's what they want.

How would this country react to the sinking of one or more of 'our' ships?

Fasten your seat belts.

9. I want to say 'bullshit' but I just don't know.
How pathetic is that, given the madman at the helm? My one comfort is that pretty much everyone knows he's a madman, even his dad, Baker, etc.

11. Even Ed Schultz goofed about the NFL terror for his entire program
He's the only one on local radio in that time slot around here and I was out and about in the car. In and out of the dentist, the pharmacy and the grocery. Every time I turned on the radio, there was Ed laughing it up about the sheer nonsense of terrorism at the stadiums this Sunday. "Where are the color codes when you need them?!" he'd ask, and then laugh his cheeks off.

What broadcaster, what American, would want to take the chance of being wrong on the issue. Who wouldn't err on the side of caution if there was a glimmer of credulity to it?

The tables have turned and their trump cards have all been played too many times. They could get their computer whiz kids busy on election day. We could lose the Senate and House with slim margins by their deviance. But they'd be hanging by a dangerous thread for two years.
