I just realized tonight feels just like (late) election night 2004
Utter despair and sadness at what should be so obviously ours.

There are so many good people on DU. So many funny people. So many outrageous and creative people. So many smart people. So many just damn real people that give so much out of themselves for a message board. And you guys know this is some real end..and now we wait for..for the done deal and what? Pray that Alito and the rest aren't that bad? Pray that Bolton and Rice and the still there fucking it up Rumsfeld aren't going to lead us into another war? Pray that someone (who? where?) will hold the president accountable? The law was broken. The constiution not followed.

An overwhelming majority of the congress and the people are against torture. The president decided to add a "signing statement" that says he doesn't have to follow what he congress says if he thinks he needs to torture. Mr. Alito approves of the unitary executive. The premise of seperate powers has been elimanated before our eyes.

These are facts. But the thing I've learned is that we aren't dealing anymore in the world of objective truth. There is Republican truth and the truth. And without legal re-dress, without elections that can be verified, without representation that has a real voice we are utterly powerless.

The only power is information. We have lost that. No matter how much comes up that this administration has done that is basically not forgivable-the tresspases against truth and against this country-the message is given that is the opposite of what the truth is. The truth is hidden, spun, treated with contempt-or in as in the nature of many unanswered questions surrounding 9/11-the day that started the endless nightmare-wholly ignored. It's turned into some Orwellian nightmare-the cliche is true. Just saw Bush saying how good it is that Osama is still around to remind Americans that is important he spy on them and break laws so Osama won't kill them. It's bizzaro world. It's crazy time. Howard Dean and Michael Moore are as bad as Bin Laden.

Anyway, the way out of this isn't through our democratic leaders. Something new will have to be born. Our we can sit around and pray they don't take away all our liberties or kill us. That's what I feel right now. Praying is all we have.

1. Misdirection is the watchword of the day
When the media puts so much coverage into missing white women on tropical Islands, missing white men who fall off cruise ships, etc. it is for a reason. That reason is to keep the public enthralled/titillated with little sexy issues and there will be nobody to keep watch for the big crimes being s l o w l y committed against the body politic.

5. Let us pray
I feel EXACTLY the same way as I did on Election Night 2004. In fact the bottle of champagne is now buried in the back of the fridge, still unopened...

Peace to all of my DU friends.

6. welcome to DU
:hi:

Sure wish I felt better. I feel so much despair in my heart tonight. I feel like throwing in the towel and hanging on to my family as tightly as I can.

You need to join a state/local election reform group, and fight like hell for your right to vote! Election reform is doable--and should be our absolute No. 1 priority. Power over election systems still resides at the state/local level, where ordinary people still have some influence. This movement is still in its infancy, but is already having successes in No. Carolina, New York, Florida, California, New Mexico and other places. Demand transparent elections!

Throw Diebold and ES&S election theft machines into 'Boston Harbor' NOW!

8. I feel the same way.
I was home all day and it was non-stop CSPAN and Air America.
Randi Rhodes scared the shit out of me, and I suspect Mike Malloy is about to do the same.

I pray that someone does the right thing and stands up and stops this.
Is there not one single Republican left with a soul?
One Democrat willing to speak for all of us?

I'm bummed too.

9. Funny...I don't know what drew me to Malloy this evening...
Don't get me wrong...I'm an official Truthseeker. I love Mike. However, I'm so bummed and frightened right now that I'm not sure I can take it. You know what I mean?

Peace.

11. It's not as bad as that night for me.
I had flown to NM for 'election protection' - stayed at Dad's house. We were both watching the results online and on CNN. I will never have as deep a pit in my stomach as I did when I hit 'refresh' on the browser and the CNN results virtually reversed themselves. I hope I never feel that horrible again.:puke:

This is close though.
