I am an immoral person who is going to hell
I am 25, been with the same girl for 6 years, nothing but love and cooperation between us we plan to wed Dec 07. I am not a Christian and the words of the bible mean as much to me as any other piece of mythological literature I have ever read. My stance on marriage? I could care less it's overrated, I don't need any piece of paper or phony religious leader to do anything for either myself or my fiance to better justify our relationship and future union. Only reason we're getting married is for the benefits (In the now declared dumbest state in the country, Arizona, Prop 107 is looking to not only define marriage as between a man and a woman, but also TAKE AWAY DOMESTIC BENEFITS)

A co-worker who is 42 says that I better make my piece with God or else.......also anything that is not biblical has no value. What's more gays should not be allowed to marry cause the bible is against gay marriage.

He's coming off the heels of a divorce because he was caught cheating on his wife.

But you see it's ME I'm going to hell cause I lack morals and values.

~N~

Congrats on the marriage thing. Any particular reason you picked Pearl Harbor Day?

Edit: Did we finally beat out MO? I hadn't heard... :dunce:

7. Oh actually we're looking at Dec 10th
Edited on Wed Oct-18-06 01:54 PM by noahmijo
That was the day I told her I loved her and wanted to be with her exclusively.

The 07 bit was the year not the date. Sorry for the confusion :)

Would it be okay if we got purple jackets? Purple looks good on me.

2. look at it this way--you will have lots of really good company, since
according to those oh-so-loving and kind and compassionate xians, it is quite likely that all of us here at DU will be joining you.

or, as I say to the idiots who keep trying to convert me, "if "being saved" means spending eternity with the likes of you, I will gladly go the other direction."

6. Right, exactly. Let's review:
Acting morally, living well, thinking based on reality and declining to judge others: hell-bound.

Nuerotic attachment to ancient book of myth while disregarding the teachings you claim to revere: flock of angels speed thee to thy rest.

When you and your fiancee get to hell, look me up. Maybe we can double-date and see hell's historic theater district.

11. "He's coming off the heels of a divorce because he was caught cheating on"
his wife".

I knew a holy roller like that. Only difference was, his wife was the original holy roller. She married him and tried changing him into a holy roller and stop his evil ways. (he was a song and dance man on cruise ships, oy, I know what you are thinking). he fell for the whole ultra-religious bible thumper uber right wing bullshit and would talk to me about how I was going to burn in hell if I didn't change MY evil ways.

Well don't you know it, he calls me all mystified over how his wife left him. After 20 minutes he let it slip that he cheated on her. Whooooops!!!

What a dolt. you can take the man off the cruise ship but you can't change his skirt chasing ways. LOL

Those types of people are loathsome.

21. A couple of points about "hell" and "eternal."
The word "Hell" has a connotation created in the Middle Ages that is not present in the original biblical writings. The Old Testament refers to "Shaol" which means, "the hidden place." And another word that is translated into "hell" in the KJV is the word that really just means, "the grave." In the New Testament, Jesus refers to "Gahenna," which is the trash heap outside of town where those who are disgraced are thrown. This is the closest thing to the "hell" of the middle ages. And there is the parable of Lazarus, which is a parable and thus what is important is the point of the message, and not the details of the message. For such an important concept as the place where non-believers are tortured endlessly, there is scant attention paid to this so called truth in the Bible. This concept of Hell was nurtured and used by those in power in much the same way as Bush uses "Terror."

And as far as the word "eternal" that is often used in modern translations, it means something akin to "through the ages," and not forever as many think of it today. It also quite clearly means "God- life."

The fundamentalists are quite wrong in their interpretations of the Bible. They are letting a thousand years of corruption distort the message of the Gospel. Jesus's "good news" was that God is with you. Now. Not in some future. Now. God loves you. Now. And God will not desert you -- ever. And this God will certainly not torture "enemy combatants." And this is not the God of the privileged moral elites. Don't let the phariseeic Bushites rob you of your right to have a relationship with God through their lies and corruption of Jesus's good news.

Keith Ward is a good source on these topics, especially in his What the Bible Really Teaches: A Challenge for Fundamentalists

23. I always like to ask if Jesus bringing Lazarus back from the dead wasn't
the original breaking of the hold of death and shouldn't we be worshipping Lazurus as Saviour instead. The eyes almost roll completely around in the skull as they try to wrap their heads around that one.

26. Sorry that you are going through this.
Don't feel bad I'm going to Hell too. I blew off a car full of Christian evangelists who were trying to gain access to the property and talk to me about the Bible. I lied and told them I was Jewish. They then had the audacity to say being Jewish was all right. In the meantime one of our family dogs was yapping her head off. So I lied again and told them that if I let them in the gate she might bite them because she doesn't like strangers.

Yep, I'm going to Hell for lying to maintain my privacy and my religious beliefs private. I wouldn't doubt that those pasty, white people all dressed up in their Sunday's best are homophobes as well.

28. You should read the part of the Arizona constitution to
the bible beater which guarantees the right to freedom of religion...states often word this to include "A man has the right to worship God according to his own conscience". (I don't know if Arizona includes this language. Then ask the bible beater if he's trying to violate your constitutional rights by dictating the terms of God to you in the same way he is dictating to gay citizens?

31. So sorry. I have one of those coworkers too.
Always feels the need to lead me in my life, even though she has disowned her own son because he is gay. I have no respect for her because she has such callous disregard for her own child.

It reminds me of that saying "what you are speaks so loudly, I can't hear what you SAY you are".

34. More than likely thanks to Phoenix
Tucson totally has its share of idiots, but I'd say by a margin of 60-40 this town votes Democratic. Phoenix however with its staunch base of religious flat earthers it will more than likely be the big push for the passage of this horrible proposition.
