I may be wrong but the ones who have returned from Iraq and run for office by and large have done so as Democrats. I think that is significant, but of course, the national media doesn't seem to highlight this fact.

1. No, there's at least one Iraqi War vet running as a Republican
Van Taylor in Texas. He appeared on "Hardball" recently, opposite Paul Hackett. All Taylor could do was to recite GOP talking points regarding the war in Iraq, and Chris Matthews savaged him in a way that might make anti-Matthews DUers think twice before they call Matthews a GOP shill.

3. aginst Chet Edwards

Good luck, they have already tried to gerrymander Edwards out and it didn't work. I don't give this guy much of a chance either.

2. If I were to run it certainly would be as a democrat
and I would thoroughly look forward to a swiftboat approaching me. I'd love to chit chat with a republican about "values" and the war and supporting those in uniform. But I'm too damned lazy so i'll just stir shit up here, throw a few bucks at my candidates and vote, vote, vote.

4. I spent hours trying to dig that information out for a letter to the
local paper. The best I could pin it down was, as of this Spring, veterans specifically of the Iraq or Afghanistan wars running for office were 2 as Republicans and 12 as Democrats. This really fries me. The Democratic party ought to be making so much noise about this that everybody in the country would know it. Of veterans in general, seems like about 50-odd Democrats and 60-odd Republicans are running.
