Poll: Foley scandal ranks low among election issues
This article on CNN webpage reads just like a page from the Karl Rove playbook. No writer's name appears with this article, by the way. What the headline doesn't tell you is that only 39% of those polled think Hastert should stay on as Speaker.

~snip~ Tuesday's poll found that 57 percent of Americans believe Republican leaders in Congress deliberately covered up the earlier concerns -- up from 52 percent in a poll taken a week earlier -- while 39 percent believe the GOP was unaware of the serious nature of Foley's behavior.

But the latest survey finds more support for House Speaker Dennis Hastert in the wake of the controversy.

In the previous poll, conducted October 6-8, 52 percent said the Foley scandal should cost the Illinois Republican his leadership post.

That figure dropped slightly, to 50 percent, while the number of people who believed Hastert should stay on as speaker grew from 31 percent last week to 39 percent this week.

2. I think he should stay on as speaker...
at least until after the elections! Having him stay in power only helps to keep the story alive.

3. According to GOP "Poles", the Foley scandal ranks high among
erection issues!

Sorry for that.

I'm OK now.

4. What's interesting about these questions...
The Foley option sticks out like a sore thumb:

1) Terrorism
2) The situation in Iraq
3) The economy
4) The situation in North Korea

5)
The charges that a former Congressman
named Mark Foley behaved inappropriately
toward teenage boys

6) Values issues such as same-sex marriage or abortion*

A couple comments...

A better way of phrasing issue 5 would have been "evidence that members of congress covered up the behavior of a teen predator." After all how can the behavior of one man compare to things like "terrorism" and "the economy."

Beyond that, the other five choices have to do with government policy.

So, I'm actually surprised issue 5 it rated as high as it did.
