Giovanni won't apologize for remarks
BY PEGGY O’FARRELL | ENQUIRER STAFF WRITER

Poet Nikki Giovanni touched off a firestorm Saturday with a profanity-spiked diatribe against Ken Blackwell during the re-dedication of Fountain Square.

She’s not happy about the uproar and criticism she’s drawn for her remarks, in which she called Blackwell “a son of a bitch” and “a political whore.”

But she’s not apologizing, either.

"All I have is my voice,” she said in a phone interview with the Enquirer Tuesday. “I don’t want it silenced. We were on (Fountain Square) where the Klan gathered to speak. I’m not sure as many people called to complain about what the Klan had to say as what I said.”

(The Cincinnati Enquirer has published a number of scathing editorials attacking Giovanni for her remarks.)

1. My only complaint is the triteness.
I expect poetry or at least originality in a poet's diatribe. If I were her, I would be embarrassed by these remarks. Olbermann is not a poet but when he sets out to describe a son of a bitch and a political whore, he soars.

2. Her words expressed exactly what I believe

And she called attention to the problem "by any means necessary."

Just think how many people would have listened to her if she said something like...

"Ken Blackwell is a man that means evil
He snatched the vote and the soul from my people."

Probably about two lines in this weeks issue of JET magazine.

Sad but true.

GO Nikki!

Go My Sister ~ speak TRUTH to POWER by any means necessary!
