My dad is far gone. He's slipped into an alternate reality. He's an ex POW from the S. Pacific in WWII, staunch Pugly, and Christian. I was curious about what he thought about fighting and suffering for a preznit that ditched habeas corpus, makes fun of Christians and considers himself above the law.
All he can sputter to me is Ted Kennedy, Ted Kennedy, ad nauseum. He said Howard Dean is like Jimmy Carter who's spouting off (?), and what do I care about Christians since I'm an infidel.
I've never had the opportunity to vote for Kennedy. Carter won the Peace Prize (so did Arafat sez my dad) and I have nothing against people of faith unless they are trying to codify their dogma into public life.
Dad says we gave up rights during WWII for our protection and we have to do it now. I mentioned the anthrax attacks and he poo-pooed that as a nothing because the Unibomber hurt more people. I pointed out that he did not swear to protect us, but to defend the Constitution and by stripping our bill of rights, he has failed.
Then he started yelling. He said, "Well, when the Democrats get the government back, maybe you'll quit griping." I said, "Not likely. I plan to hold their feet to the fire." Then he hung up on me.
Ah, family.
