What can we do about Saddam (October/November Surprise)?
The verdict will come on November 5th and we all know that the decision was made long before the trial began - he'll be found guilty. This is two days before the election and, of course, the propaganda machines (CNN, Faux, MSNBC, etc...) will spin it 24/7 the entire time. This will probably be enough time to whip many of our recent converts into a patriotic frenzy and spike repub polls massively upward.

It's obvious that this is why rove is so confident about retaining control of congress and I'm sure he expects his ability to turn this around to solidify his control over the "saved" members even more. That means an even harsher two years than the previous six that have allowed them to destroy the Constitution.

The only thing I can think of to mollify the effect of the media spin is to get out in front of them with a coordinated campaign announcing that we know this is what they're planning to do. LTTEs, blog postings, call ins to radio shows, anything to get this info out. Maybe if we get enough people doing it the DNC and other Dem organizations will pick up the ball and actually put some time and money into it.

Any other ideas out there, or am I just nuts?

1. If THAT'S their Oct surprise, it's pretty freaking lame...
It will dominate the news cycle for 24 hrs, if that...

3. I agree. * may think Saddam is a biggie and perhaps the backwash
does too, but I think the Americans who think the Iraq war is a slow-moving train wreck could care less what's going on with his trial. You know, it could actually backfire, as there might be increased violence around the time of the verdict. Assuming, of course, an increase in violence will be noticeable by that point in time.

2. The only thing that will be shocking regarding the verdict is if Saddam
is found innocent of all charges! If that happens, it will be major bad for the GOP.

Saddam guilty, though? No surprise with that verdict. I don't think it will have much of an impact, everyone is already expecting it anyway.

5. We expect it because we keep up.
We know the date of the verdict, the verdict itself, and the reasoning behind the timing. The average person doesn't. The media is going to spin this solidly for two days whipping up the masses. I will be extremely surprised if they don't.

4. The 5th is a Sunday...

I don't know how many Americans will be swayed by this, if at all. It seems the announcement could have been made earlier, say a week or two. That way, all the media whores could be chiming in on this development. As it stands, a 24-48 hour "news" cycle doesn't seem all that formidable.

Of course, the Bush-base will salivate and vote "Bushista" anyway, but I believe a lot of Americans will see right through this and not be swayed...

edited for spelling

7. 700,000+ dead just so an ex-dictator can go to jail?
not to mention all the chaos going on in the Middle East right now as a result of this war.

8. Nobody gives a f*ck anymore about Sadaam

unless he wants his country back-- then we'd thank him. I think repukes are overestimating the impact of a "guilty" verdict. Any American watching wouldn't trade that verdict for one American soldier's life. Not one.

if that's the best they can do, they are so f*cked.

9. What to do? For 1 thing, help spread the word that 9/11 was an inside job

Too many DUers still buy the Offical Fairy Tale and are too lazy to learn the facts about how the Official 9/11 Conspiracy Theory ("Caveman Did It") is a total fabrication. Learn the facts and spread the word. That way, fewer people will be influenced whenever Bushco has SHussein rubbed-out so he can't tell the world about the Bush Crime Family.
