RW Patrick McHenry (R-NC) and defender of Hastert is Gay?
Edited on Tue Oct-17-06 12:57 PM by KoKo01
Closeted Gay Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) Leads Hastert Defense
Submitted by Bob Fertik

"Sick" is a commonly-used adjective among rightwingers who were trained in ideological warfare by Newt Gingrich's GOPAC in the 1990s.

In any event, the "sick" people are McHenry's fellow Republicans who first got their hands on the emails in the fall of 2005 but failed to hand them to the police:

But what could be more "sick" than a closeted gay Republican who rails about the "sanctity of marriage" while defending those who cover up the crimes of a child predator?

STATEMENT BY MCHENRY REGARDING HIS "VALUES:
Congressman McHenry has always been a vocal advocate of traditional values and strongly supports a constitutional amendment outlining marriage as the union of one man and one woman. He believes that Congress must act to curb the influence of judicial activists who seek to recklessly redefine marriage and other traditional institutions.

Marriage, family and community are not just catch phrases; they are the backbone of American society. Sadly, however, there is an organized effort by the radical left and their allies in Hollywood and academia to destroy our traditional American culture.

America is an inclusive nation and we respect other cultures and traditions, but we must defend what is sacred in our country from the reckless actions of a dangerous few who seek to impose their radical view on all of society.

How do I know Patrick McHenry is gay? Let me put it this way: "everyone" knows Patrick McHenry is gay.

1. I do agree with his statement
"we must defend our country from the reckless actions of a dangerous few who seek to impose their radical views on all of society." There is only one group like that in America today, the radical christian right. Only I would suggest they are more then a "few."

I heard he was gay too. He's one of those guys who protests way too much. Go on patrick, get you some (more) of what you want.

2.  Such self hate...
By the way, where is David Drier? Usually when there is a"crisis" with the repugs, he is front and center. Hmmmmm....

5. I Support You On That
I am sick to death of the harmful hypocrisy of these holier than thou lying pukes, all of them straight and gay. But these days I take especial umbrage with self haters who would harm good. gay men and women to serve their own purposes of self aggrandizement and power. How fricking low can you go?

Giving this an R and hoping it gets on the greatest and word gets round. Let that little creep deal with it.

6. maybe he is, but you gotta do better than "everyone knows"
If everyone knows, then someone would be willing to go on the record and explain how they know. Sorry, this isn't good enough.

8. Bob Fertik says he has his reasons for knowing. Maybe he's clued
into the Gay DC Community. Don't think he would have put that out on Democrats.com if he didn't know it was true.

McHenry is a dreadful RW'er a total tool for the RW Evangelicals. Early voting starts in NC next week and he's leading his Dem opponent. :-(

11. I agree that McHenry is a total asshat
And it may be that Fertik has his reasons for knowing. My problem is that he's not sharing those reasons. He's just saying "everyone knows". If you're going to make that kind of statement, back it up. I hate it when repugs play that game, and I'm not going to start liking it when the shoe is on the other foot.

12. He does give reasons on his blog that I linked. I agree with you that
it's better if one has a direct quote...but then in this situation where one is "closeted" it's kind of hard to get someone to speak up.

13. I don't see any reasons given
All he says is "In McHenry's case, I have completely reliable sources. With any luck they will go on the record soon."

Why can't they go on the record now if "everyone knows"? Why can't he describe what it is that his sources told him that confirms the assertion that McHenry is gay?

As it stands, all he's got is an unsubstantiated assertion from unnamed "sources". That's too thin for me.

And the fact that he goes on to speculate about other repubs based on such evidence as (1) Reynolds was sweating during his press conference with pickles; (2) Hastert was a wrestling coach; (3)Boehner is "excessively natty".

Not exactly credibility builders.

I will say the following: Having worked with folks on the Hill for 20 years, it is true that there is rampant speculation (and assumption) that Dreier is gay. The difference between saying that "everyone knows" Dreier is gay and saying that about McHenry is that, in fact, for years I've heard that about Dreier, but I haven't heard anything about McHenry. While that may be because Dreier is part of the leadership and McHenry is a dweeby first termer, but the fact remains, the statement that "everyone knows" about Dreier is much more credible at this point than the similar statement about McHenry.

14. McHenry is a "dweeby first termer" but must have
been not as careful as some of the folks who've been around awhile. What can I tell you? NYT's and WaPo use "sources off the record" all the time. I can't imagine why Bob Fertik would want to risk his reputation to just put a malicious rumor out there for no reason.
