6. The Democrats can invoke cloture till January
Then if they take over the Senate they can reject her. Her lying before the Senate would suffice, not to mention ignoring the threat of OBL.

10. It's what I called Bush's "November Surprise".
Edited on Mon Oct-16-06 08:49 PM by David Zephyr
It's what I wrote here at the DU recently and what has become part of rightwing blogs, too:

------------------------

James Baker, Henry Kissinger, John Warner and Old Man Bush are going to commandeer the White House away from the neo-cons, fire Rumsfeld and possibly, just possibly push Dick Cheney into retirement.

Call me crazy, but I think it's already a done deal.

"Stay the course is only one-quarter correct" means that the three-quarters is about to be announced.

No October Surprise from the Republicans because the November Surprise will be essentially a confession of failure by the White House with as much face saving as possible.

I think that even Karl Rove may be leaving.

14. If Cheney does resign, he could have himself a Hollywood career.
I'd cast him as The Kingpin in one of the SpiderMan or Daredevil films.

Condiliar as Vice President? I don't think the Far Right would think much of that idea.

19. Yep. Ol' Dick has a film career just waiting for him. All he has to do
is scribble out a quick resignation memo and hop the first flight out of Dulles to LAX.

He'll need to pick up a pair of sun glasses, of course. Maybe do a Q&A with Paul Zahn in-flight.

25. Alas, poor Yorick! I knew him, Horatio:

a fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy:
he hath borne me on his back a thousand times; and now,
how abhorred in my imagination it is! my gorge rims at
it. Here hung those lips that I have kissed I know
not how oft. Where be your gibes now? your gambols?
your songs? your flashes of merriment, that were wont
to set the table on a roar? Not one now,
to mock your own grinning? quite chap-fallen?

16. Confirmation of any VP due to the resignation of the current VP
Edited on Mon Oct-16-06 08:46 PM by tyedyeto
is a Senatorial responsibility.

Could this be done before January when newly elected Senators are sworn in? I doubt that will happen.

Edit:

Just noticed this is an 'old' story.

23. Hastert would not be the VP if this were to happen.
The President would nominate someone who then has to go through the nomination process in the Senate.

Speaker of the House only takes over when BOTH the Pres and VP are no longer able to fulfill their duties.

21. Bush doesn't pick a VP
Bush does not pick a vice president, the republican house and senate does that. And besides even if cheney does resign they don't have to have a vice president at all. Remember when Nixon resigned and Ford as vice president was appointed as acting president. A person is only acting no matter what they call him, unless he is elected he is never a real president. But to get back to the statement, we had no vice president to fill Ford's place when he took Nixon's place the vice president position was left vacant.
