is telling the truth? It's very difficult to admit that you have been so manipulated that you really can't or won't think for yourself.

I was trying to figure out today why Clinton and Hillary are so hated and vilified. Clinton accomplished what every good conservative always wanted, smaller government, tax cuts for middle class, elimination of deficit, and tough on crime and big on trade. The only thing I can come up with is that Clinton befriended blacks, he actually liked them and made no secret about it and Hillary was married to a man who seemed to like blacks. So many, were manipulated by the soft racism that Republicans are good at pandering to the unthinking. They can wrap the racism in several different issues (abortion, tax cuts, tough on crime etc., smaller government) that can be extrapolated out to one point: racism. Otherwise, it really makes not sense for them to despise Clinton so much. A poor sourthern boy who made it to the top without the benefit of power or privilege like GW. You would think the average conservative would be proud.

Thus, manipulation is what Republicans seem to be good at and those they manipulate find it very difficult to face the reality of it.

1. Not surprised in the least. Denial of reality is their big thing.

6. I think the RW Evangelicals are realizing that they
may end up being the scapegoats, if the GOP gets blown out of the water in November. I think it was reported on Keith Olbermann, that some GOP officials were getting tired of the eveangelicals refusal to consider that in politics, sometimes you have to go along to get along, and you can't have your way. The fact that the GOP may end up as a party of just corporate types, neocons and evangelicals does not bode well for some activists. I think there will be a sectarian war in the GOP, bring the popcorn, coke and kick off the shoes and enjoy the spectacle.

2. They are also angry at Kuo because they are mystified
by the fact that they are unable to attack him the way they normally would...the man is dying...he has an inoperable brain tumor...he is getting right with God and there lies the problem...he is doing the Christian thing...

3. Although the 'official' stance is denial of Kuo's assertions ...
... I think he is probably having an impact on Fundie voters. They have been making noises for months now about the fact that Bush has failed to make good on the promises he made to ensure their votes, e.g. a Constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.

So they were already thinking less than kindly thoughts about this administration. Then comes along one of their own, an insider at the WH, who reveals that Bush's faith-based initiatives were nothing more than window-dressing without any substantial funding behind them.

In other words, in an atmosphere of an already wary Fundie base, what the man is saying supports their ever-growing suspicions about having been betrayed.

4. These people don't give two shits for God...

And it shows in their behavior. They love power -- being able to brag to their home congregations that they have "a congressman in their pocket" and having their calls returned low-level Bush staffers. They love money -- don't think for one minute that a percentage of the "faith based initiative" funding isn't lining the pockets of someone's cassock.

The "Corporate Christians" have a huge financial stake in the Republican Party, and if it means breaking a few commandments in order to maintain their power and prestige, well, they never cared for the commandments anyway.

On Edit: I just did some checking, and Pat Robertson's net worth is estimated at up to $1 billion. So if you're wondering why someone like Robertson wouldn't mind that his "agenda" was being ignored...it might be because Pat has another agenda.

5. Don't think Kuo proves that Bush & co aren't religious wingnuts...
If you know much about the religious, they are quite capable of thinking other religious people are "kooks." Thus, someone who follows Pat Robertson might think JWs are crazed zealots, someone who follows Falwell might think Pat Robertson is a crazed zealot, and an extreme Catholic might think all of the former are crazed zealots. Just because Bush, Rove & co talk about some of the other religious right as kooks, doesn't mean that they their own religiosity is lacking. It just means they aren't the same kind of religious kook.

7. "that's just anti-bush propaganda. sorry dear, it turned me off"
said the mother of a friend of mine after she was shown an article about kuo and his book.

my friend was like her until i helped her realize what was going on...but no matter how many times my friend points out republicans saying bad things about bush to her mother, nope, just anti-bush propaganda, liberals out to get him, it's all a lie and i don't believe it.

bush can do no wrong in her eyes...because he was ordained by God to lead us, duh! :eyes:

that line of thinking scares the shit out of me
