Why the slogan "fighting them over there or fighting them here" is
stupid.

Fighting whom?
Terrorists that WERE NOT in Iraq until the US invaded. Don't you think the Iraqi people know this?

The reason why this is such a stupid comment is because what does this say about our friends, the Iraq people? Oh we will fight them in Iraq. Nice way to treat friends. Let them kill you on your land, "friends."

I noticed the thugs have not used this expression in a long time, maybe they just thought it out!

Be sure to make this a comeback to any rethug who starts with this drivel.

5. Actually, that IS okay with them, what you just said. They really DON'T
care how many people die in Iraq as long as it's not them.

11. i shame them, calling them on it out loud. i was amongst a lot of
fundies when i first starting hearing that. these christians that preached andprayed all day long, had the audacity to sayy something like that.

i would continue it out to how dare you think those lives dont matter. that your childs life is more important than an iraqi child

was a profound time for me, speaking this out loud to these people.

4. It's about fighting muslims.
That is, massacring over half a million of them.

That's what they mean about fighting "them" over there.

or more of bloody fighting?

14. My bro-in-law is an officer on the ground in Baghdad
and says it is the worst situation he has ever seen. He's a combat vet with 24 years in the service; he was in Gulf War I, he's been to the Balkans, Afghanistan and Central America, and he says it's NOT an insurgency, it's total chaos. There is no right or wrong, no up or down - just death and destruction. Everywhere.

In any case, this "war" was sold to us as "flowers and candy, quick victory and on to the next battle." It was a lie.

in Iraq was making terrorism worse.

17. You do know, of couse, that military officers do not make public
statements about policy without express permission from their superiors. The only thing he would be allowed to say is exactly what the bosses tell him to say. Unless, of course, he was looking for a quick discharge, and since this is the official line, he is clearly catapulting the propaganda.

21. He is too stupid to be a military officer!!!
Didn't Muslim youth from the UK try to organize a terrorist attack on US-bound planes from the UK 3 months ago? Does he know how many Muslim countries there are in the world stretching all across North Africa through Eurpoe to Asia who empathize with whats going on in Iraq and are gonna want to retaliate later on?

Your military officer friend wears a uniform and know nothing!!!!

22. Completely ignoring the fact that THERE WAS NO INSURGENCY THERE...
...until we invaded and destroyed the country.

It also makes that ridiculous assumption that
an INTERNAL Iraqi civil war somehow equates
to international terrorism.

The various Iraqi "insurgent" groups are fighting
FOR CONTROL OF IRAQ. They are -NOT- fighting to
invade and attack the USA.

Whenever some warmonger parrots the stupid "fighting them
there not here
" catchphrase, I like to ask if they
remember the way those thousands of VietCong came swarming
over to the US mainland after we cut-n-ran back in 1975...

Hey, you remember when THAT happened? :sarcasm:

No, we didn't "stay the course" in Vietnam, did we?
And as a result, here's Saigon, 30 years after we left.
The HORROR...the horror:

and it excites FReeper men, because it plays to their fantasy of using their own private arsenals to fight terrorists in the streets.

Thanks, ComerPerro. I understand my weird brother and sister-in-law better now. For what it's worth... :eyes: :hi: :yourock:

16. I have always hated that statement
It's embarrassingly and infuriatingly callous. Iraqi babies are as innocent and precious and deserving of life and health and a FUTURE as are American babies. I have six grandchildren whom I adore--and I still feel that way. I cannot believe the cognitive dissonance (and heartlessness) that it must take to make and believe such a statement. It's one of the most mindless pieces of propaganda out there in the political ether.

If we send all our soldiers to fight them there, who's protecting us here?

or I'll ask -- then why do we need the patriot act and homeland security if all the terrorists are "there".

26. They act like there is a finite number of terrorists in the
world and they are gonna lure them to Eye-raq and kill all of them and that would end terrorism and GWB and the Republican Party would go down in histrory as having won the "War on Terra". How can grown people be this stupid??

The other one that's ridiculous is, "So you would prefer if Saddam was still in power?"

28. It's a wingnut's wet dream to envision acting out "Red Dawn"...
Edited on Mon Oct-16-06 01:39 PM by KrazyKat
And, since there's no longer any significant "commie" threat, the image of brown-skinned, crazed and rapacious terrorists running through the streets of Provo, Lubbock, or Bakersfield will just have to do.

And, the "fighting them over there..." bite makes us look *tough*, since, in the inevitable sports metaphor, away games are usually more difficult than home games.

If anyone with half a brain thinks about "fighting them over there..." for a minute, it's one of the dumbest things to come from the right-wing mind, for it dangerously underestimates the threat -- are hard-core terrorists weak enough, and foolish enough, to all be in just **one** place at one time??????

31. That's a false dichotomy.
That's like saying 'if today isn't Monday, it must be Thursday'. There's no evidence that 'fighting them over there' is going to keep "them" (whoever THEM is??) away from this country.
