Navy looks to develop high-energy laser weapon
Navy looks to develop high-energy laser weapon

From National Journal's Technology Daily
The Navy is seeking information for producing a high-energy laser weapon within three years that can be used by the military and the Homeland Security Department for several purposes, such as defeating attacks using personal watercraft and unmanned aerial vehicles.

"Emphasis should be placed on an initial capability that could counter a subset of asymmetric threats such as Jet Skis, small-boat swarm attacks, rockets, mortars, artillery rounds, , electro-optic sensors, and soft, unmanned aerial vehicles," an Oct. 11 notice in FedBizOpps stated.

The Navy is aiming to begin testing technology in March and envisions developing a weapon that can be fielded as either a land-based system or integrated onto ships.

4. You either have to pick them off one at a time
or wipe them out completely.

Your choice.

Be sure to use defensive shields to avoid stains of dishonor at all times.

5. Lessons learned from the big military exercise a few years back
Edited on Mon Oct-16-06 12:46 PM by IanDB1
The military conducted a huge join-forces exercise in which they simulated being attacked by Israel.

The OpFor, American troops playing the part of Israeli commandos, used those sorts of tactics very successfully against our Navy.

They were so successful in kicking our asses, that the top brass interrupted the war game, re-set everything, and changed the rules to assure that the simulated American forces would win.

Yes... American generals and admirals hit the re-set button and used the cheatcodes.

There was a documentary on either Nova or one of the other PBS programs about this.

Operation Millienium Something (or something similar).
