1. They pulled that one out

of their asses in the 70's. An idiot I work with tried to pull it on me a little while ago. I had to remind said idiot that the Cons control the White House, the Senate, Congress, Pentagon, Wall Street, and on and on. When you control every damn thing you can't blame your failures on anyone but yourself.

That usually shuts them up, but if they threw that one at me, I would simply ask who controls Congress and the WhiteHouse. No Democrat does. It's their show, not the Democrats. This isn't Johnson with a Democratic Congress here.

4. Not directly - but I expect we will more and more.

Wait - there is the idea that we have to fight this war with one hand behind our back because of "Political Correctness," and that's why we are loosing. I have heard and seen that a lot - that we need to get brutal with our enemies in Iraq (apparently Abu Ghraib doesn't count).

I guess there are elements to the whole war with islam argument that underline this as well. We should have invaded Iran and Syria already, and if we had done so, the support from those countries would stop - so we'd be able to get Iraq under control (that strikes me as pretty insane, but that's the argument). But once again damned liberals have stopped us from taking the necessary steps in our war on Islam . . . or Terrorism, if you prefer.

So I guess I have heard it.

5. There's the rub.. on the one hand, we're fighting to liberate the Iraqis &

bring them democracy... but on the other hand, when the wingnuts get pissed at the futility of it, they want to nuke the country into glass, kill a generation of males there, etc. etc.

Which is it, I wonder? I bet I know!
