Walking down the street carrying my Lamont lawn sign
Edited on Mon Oct-16-06 08:54 AM by femmedem
I met a man who stopped me to ask, "Is that Lamont as good as people are saying?"

"I like him," I said. "He's not a god, but I hope he gets elected. What do you think?"

"I don't think pulling out from Iraq is a good idea. I'm real scared of it."

"Why?"

"It's going to be a hot bed of terrorism." He went on about it.

I didn't try to dissuade him, not at first. Instead I asked, "Do you think going into Iraq was a good idea?"

He did. Why? "Because Saddamm Hussein was funding Al Qaeda big time."

DING DING DING

Moral: Behind every war supporter is a misinformation campaign. And if you can tell people the truth, you can change their minds. And yes, he'll be voting for Lamont.

I live about a quarter mile from Lamont's New London HQ. I was just walking home with my new sign.

2. The problem is that this meme is embedded in his brain...
in the very deepest recesses where scary things hide under the bed and in the dark closet. Getting this guy to let go of that would be like asking him to stop breathing.

3. It takes time, but it's doable.
I mean, I did it. But it took about half an hour.

I guess I'm trying to tell everyone that when you're canvassing, when you're phone banking, when you're just out and about talking to potential voters, whenever you're talking with someone who's leaning Puke you've got to first do more listening than talking. You've got to find out what the lie is that's keeping them from voting Dem. Otherwise, you're just wasting your breath talking issues.

5. I would have said...
"Don't tell anyone, but Joe Lieberman's campaign is paying me five dollars for every Ned Lamont sign I collect off the street."

I'm kidding.
