Please support a boycott against Heart of America restaurants
Edited on Sun Oct-15-06 09:35 PM by Bluzmann57
For those of you who are not familiar with the above mentioned restaurant chain, it is owned by a guy named Mike Whalen who is running for the vacated Iowa First District Congressional seat as a repub. Now normally, I wouldn't care if we ate at his restaurants or not, as the food is actually pretty good, but this guy is nuts. He supports privatization of Social Security, is opposed to National health care, is opposed to a woman's right to choose, supports bush's tax cuts for the wealthy, and on and on. Not only that, he has flat out lied in ads portraying his opponent, Bruce Braley, as a communist. And he accuses Braley of shipping jobs out of the USA, which is patently insane since Braley really doesn't have it within his power to ship jobs out of the country. The rncc has also placed ads against Braley accusing him of being "an extreme Liberal" (not a bad thing imo), a "peace candidate" (also not a bad thing), and equating him with being a Communist. Back to McCarthyism I guess. Anyway, for a list of HoA properties, go to www. hoari.com. And I will not list whalen's website here because I do not wish to give him any credence at all, but it's fairly obvious what it is. So if you are out here in the Midwest, or passing through, plase do not give this guy any of your money.
One more thing, whalen has had rove, cheney, l. bush, hastert, and mehlman in to raise money for him. That alone should be enough to boycott his properties.
on edit-one more time for the website. www.hoari.com. Thanks again. This guy must be stopped.

9. Johnny's Steakhouse, Grammas Kitchen, Thunder Bay Grille, The Machine Shed
Mostly in IA, WI, MN, NE, IL. Also some hotels in the midwest.

I know you don't want to list the website but there are some places that I wouldn't have know about without the help of the interwebs. http://www.hoari.com/ I do a fair amount of traveling and it's good to know what to avoid.

10. Thanks
I thought I posted the website of his restaurants here. I actually meant to not post his congressional website. Guess I screwed up.

13. I'm glad you posted this in GD.
I saw your post in the IA forum & posted my unwitting patronage at a Johnny's. I'll never do that again.

12. Can I add an attachment to this?
Please don't buy gasoline from the Pilot, either - if you happen to be in an area they service.

Jim Haaslam, Pilot Oil owner, is chairman for Bob Corker's campaign and his son, Jim Jr., is Knoxville, TN's wingnut mayor.

I would much rather go down the street and purchase my gasoline from the Citgo.

Here's a link to their website, if you need it: http://www.pilotcorp.com/

14. Very good!
We have a Pilot gas station, in fact right near one of whalen's properties, and I won't go get gas there again. Thanks for the info.
