US MEDIA ECHO CHAMBER WILL NOW DROWN OUT THE LANCET REPORT
A US Gladiator from Gotham City has died in a plane crash/terrorist attack whatever and the fact that the US military slaughterhouse is responsible for 655,000 deaths in Iraq can now float away sweetly beneath the rising tide of the media circus.

The problem here is that US society has already become such a tottering edifice, so corrupt, morally feeble & confused, that one such incident was quite capable of causing the entire country to turn it's head away from the daily horrors done in their name.

Another very unpleasant incident, but other countries suffer these kinds of tragedies, and far worse, all the time, hourly (caused, more often than not, by us).

So quite naturally like a nice self-censored breeze in a sleepy manufactured reality:
US MEDIA ECHO CHAMBER WILL NOW DROWN OUT THE LANCET REPORT

Will You?

1. They weren't going to pay attention anyway
If it wasn't this plane crash, it'd be something else

In Iraq. 24 dripping down the wall of an appartment building.

It's a sad comentary on the Amurikan psyche.

If it wern't for the alternative, I'd seriously doubt whether there was anything worth fighting to preserve. In fact, I'm not sure there is anything left to preserve, just a totalitarian global nightmare to be somehow avoided.

2. God, the callousness of some Duers is astounding
The story is just a few hours old for crissakes.

But hey I'm sure your self righteousness carries you thru the day...

15. that is very rude
there is no self righteousness at all. On the contrary, compassion for innocent people the US has slaughtered in the hundreds of thousands is a much bigger deal than a freak accident, NOT terror related.

20. Rude? Then you better not read this.
The OP is making a grandstanding point mere hours after news event.

"On the contrary, compassion for innocent people the US has slaughtered in the hundreds of thousands is a much bigger deal than a freak accident, NOT terror related"

When someone wears their "compassion" as some kind of badge of honor, I think less of that person.

3. Do you mind the country "turning its head" for a couple hours?
This just happened, for Pete's sake, it is NEWS.

Also. Do you really think Katie Couric was going to cover the Lancet report anyhow?

22. No I don't mind
the country turning it's head for a few hours but I mind very much when the country turns it's head for a few ,actually several, years. In fact I sense a trend here. The Lancet report should be splashed at the front of every newpaper and in the forefront of everyone's minds and the images of horror should be burned into every one's minds. And yes of course it's news as is the Foley affair but the attention these type of stories get in comparison to the real enormous issues of our day is to say the last a grotesque display of political consumerism inside the media hologram.

And it ain't just Katie.

7. Troops in Iraq 'til 2010
and it will drown out the Army's estimate that current troop levels will be maintained in Iraq until 2010.

That's big, ugly news.

Apparently, one of them is a professional athlete, employed by one of the most well-known sports franchises in the world. Maybe this is actually news?

11. Since Bush was asked about the Lancet Report today,
the news might cover it. Will they give it as much attention as it deserves? No, so we will be able to talk about that later.

While I know I am setting myself :scared: up to be portrayed as a corporate shill or just another pretty (or handsome) face, I am going to go out on a limb and point out that there have been a few, not as many as there should, but a few anti-Bush, anti-GOP stories on the national news of late. There has even been a story or two about the continuing slaughter in Iraq.

Anyway, look forward to meeting you guys here around 7 PM ET. If I have to eat crow, I like it medium rare, please. (Btw, we usually watch ABC here, so you can always tell me that the other networks didn't cover it, even if ABC does, I'll never know.)

13. train wreck in France, 12 dead
I only know that because I have CNNI and they did not dwell for hours on it. Folks here freak over anything remotely close to TERRA! They will work on this all night and tomorrow.

You are right, The Lancet report will be lost except by perhaps Keith.

my experience with international news overseas is it stays international. Unless it is something HUGE like the London or Madrid Bombings. Wait! ugh! Right now CNNI has devoted a half hour to this accident.
