UW instructor compares Bush to Hitler
CARRIE ANTLFINGER
Associated Press

<skip>

"Like Bush and the neocons, Hitler and the Nazis inaugurated their new era by destroying an architectural monument and blaming its destruction on their designated enemies," he wrote.

Barrett said Tuesday he was comparing the attacks to the burning of the German parliament building, the Reichstag, in 1933, a key event in the establishment of the Nazi dictatorship.

"That's not comparing them as people, that's comparing the Reichstag fire to the demolition of the World Trade Center, and that's an accurate comparison that I would stand by," he said.

He added: "Hitler had a good 20 to 30 IQ points on Bush, so comparing Bush to Hitler would in many ways be an insult to Hitler."

1. Like a choice between an insane, power mad drug addict, and...
Hitler.

2. :popcorn icon:
I predict this will be an interesting thread, because it found a loophole in "Godwin's Law"; if someone off the internet compares something to Hitler, and the forum in question is reserved for dissecting offline events, then the probability of making the original Nazi comparison is already zero.

I think the Hitler analogy here is way off base, and not because Hitler was a painter and a bit of a self-made man. Bush is what you find time and again in the annals of hereditary monarchy: a playboy dilettante with no experience or knack in governing, fighting, or diplomacy. Let's say he's the love child of Nero, Richard II, and Louis XIV.

6. I think Bush is more like Caligula
A boy inbred of the useless genes of high society with no sense of accomplishment or moral compass.

5. no, but he didn't quite die on the front lines
It's abysmal to delve into Hitler's finer points, suffice to say things could be a lot better and a lot worse.

12. Bush in not in Hitler's league yet, but give him two more years...
Let him arrest and imprison all the people he imagines hate him and hold them without trial and torture them.

Let him nuke Iran and North Korea and begin World War III.

Then we can say (those of us who may be left alive), YES! Bush has achieved his dream of becoming as great as Der Fuehrer!
