Lots of stuff going on-slashing of civil liberties, people being disappeared, election fraud-all very important things, but this is very chilling too :

1. Well, I'm going to worry about Amerikan Fascism, and the threat of nuclear
war first.

Once those two are defeated, I'll get to the frogs, ok?

2. ummm it isn't about frogs

Its about the first direct link to the mass die-off that could result from global warming :eyes:

Btw it isn't that doing something to combat global warming keeps you from worrying about those other things :eyes:

In general its a good idea to actually read an article before making snarky remarks about its contents based on the headline...

4. Yeah we humans don't seem to care too much about what we do to this planet
But, this isn't even just about the frogs .....This is something that will affect future generations of humans as well...
Anyone following the science knows just how scary this stuff is....

6. Indeed. I've been following all the interconnectedness stories
for a couple of years now...and you're right. Anyone who's been paying attention knows how critical it is right now.

To be totally selfish for a moment, I'm glad I won't be around in 50 years. It ain't gonna be pretty. I'm a fatalist, and I don't think there's much hope for us to turn things around in that time.

8. yeah...I have decided not to have kids
unless I see serious turn-about in the next few years :(

I am a physicist, but I know a lot of biologists and ecologists and they seem very pessimistic about the future, unless things change dramatically. It isn't that everyone is gonna die in an instant as those accusing environmentalists of hyperbole say. But, the many possible scenarios are all scary and not necessarily in some sci-fi channel movie way....

7. Thanks. I hope more people saw it and read the article than
responded to it. That's often the case here at DU.

Anyway, I've e-mailed it to nearly everyone I know who will be receptive to such things.

9. I read it, and told someone else about it today.
But I couldn't even open the frog story. Too painful.

10. This too is so sad....
Soon we will only see the spectacularly beautiful species in books...and the rare ones, we may never see at all, because they will be extinct thanx to humankind...
On the island of Guam...in 1989...there were no beautiful birds...now I find out, the brown snake from China took care of them...
The polar bears are drowning...because there's water where there needs to be ice...Whole villages have to move because of melting Artic Ice...The Akele penguins had trouble getting to the sea last year, because of that iceberg blocking their path...authorities figured all the babies would die...How about all the animals that lived on all those glaciers, worldwide, that have melted?
How many species do we have to lose, worldwide, before we wise up...how much of it can be stopped...??? better yet, will we wake up and make an attempt to stop it in time? AS they go...so do we...

12. I didn't realize what was missing until I was on my way...
to the airport. There I was, being driven around in the Taiwan countryside- and there was not a bird to be seen. Not one. None at all.

They all died from the DDT they used to keep the mosquitos from killing everyone with yellow fever and malaria. Or from the fact that there were no bugs left to eat.

And so it goes.
