What's happening with the Foley scandal is that it's making people forget
that George W Bush is the ONLY reason people should need to make them realize that the Republican Party should be voted out of office, PERIOD.

It's just amazing how little it takes to divert people's attention away from the real issues concerning this country. It's equally amazing how little that our Democrats are doing to get the voters focused on how terrible Bush has been and how wrong that all Republicans are for the USA....not just the perverted ones in Congress like Foley.

And now the Republicans will shift even more focus away from Bush's miserable record by scaring the bejesus out of the general public with the North Korean "threat".

Let's hope our Democratic spokespeople wake up and accentuate the focus back to where it belongs on George "the worst president in history" Bush, or we're going to lose out again to the media, Foley, & North Korea.

1. So Foley is Rove's secret weapon for Democratic defeat?
Guess I heard it here on DU first.

Since I don't read FR.

I sometimes don't think Rove is needed
People are so self-absorbed and bored by politics that nothing is needed really, barring maybe a new season of American Idol :-/

5. I can understand losing out "to the media" or "to N. Korea".
But to Foley? I just don't get it, sorry. You're saying Foley is a losing issue for Democrats... I just don't get it.

10. Again, no where did I say anything like that either.
You're saying Foley is a losing issue for Democrats

I said that? Not even close. What I said is that the Foley scandal is making people forget about the one and only issue that should make them vote for Democrats: George Bush and his miserable record.

No where did I say the Foley scandal wasn't important or that it shouldn't be dealt with in swift and appropriate fashion. However, with the Foley scandal and all the publicity that it's getting, our Democrats better be on their best alert to make sure that Foley isn't the only thing people should be concerned about when it comes to all things Republican. George Bush and ALL his minions are the number one priority.

I just don't get it.

You took the words right out of my mouth.

12. I'm sorry, you clearly mean well, but it still sounds like that to me
It sounds to me like everything you're saying adds up to, 'Foley is a losing issue for Democrats' which is why we shouldn't focus on it at all, because the sole winning issue is President Bush. If that's not how you meant it, or I'm simply clinically insane, that's unfortunate.

I don't object to making Bush an issue but, if I was Karl Rove but working for the Democrats, I wouldn't look a gift club in the mouth. I'd take it and beat the majority silly with it as long as possible. Perhaps I would be wrong in doing so.

Anyway, I'm not interested in carrying this any further with you, but thanks for putting your words into my mouth.

2. I'm right there with you on the worst prez ever thing, but if Foley helps
us win the House or Senate, than that is fine by me. What? It isn't enough to win? We have to win for the right reasons too? No wonder we keep losing to these asswipes.

3. I agree that serious issues should STILL be a priority for Dems getting
any media. Foley is now a life of its own - but other serious issues need extra sunlight - like Condi's lie about pre9-11 warnings, and the 9-11 commission who CVERED UP that lie for BushInc.

And Iraq's Civil War - Dems have to start backing up the fact that Iraq IS in civil war, and stop denying it for political jockeying of position.

20. "Dems have to"
Exactly. In regards to what you said about how other serious issues needing extra sunlight, Dems have to make sure it happens because the media isn't going to cover it on their own. If our people don't start screaming about the most important things, then the media is simply going to continue covering what's fun for them. We should be hearing just how terrible Bush is, as well as Foley.

They can even link Foley, Iraq lies, 9-11 lies, Katrina lies - all a product of the GOPs culture of corruption.

6. Tip O'Neill: "All politics are local"
Just tying incumbent Republicans to Bush may not be enough. If the local rep brings the bacon back to his own district, people will vote for him even if they hate Bush. BUT, if you can get any of the House scandals, especially a sex scandal since it is the easiest to understand and the one that won't cause the voters to fall asleep, you might be able to defeat the incumbent.

7. Those in "the middle" do not detest Bush the way those...
Edited on Tue Oct-10-06 11:56 AM by TWriterD
on the left do and they will never buy into the notion that Bush is responsible for all the world's ills. And Bush hatred only makes the wingnuts more determined to vote and keep the big, bad libruls out of power. Blaming it on one man will backfire. It didn't work for us in 2004, why would it work now?

If it takes a damn sex scandal to bring about a change in power, I'm all for it. If the glaring incompetence, greed, and corruption of the past 6 years haven't gotten through to people already, WTF will? Gas prices have dropped; bring on the damn sex.

And just how, with wingnuts controlling Corporate Media, are the Dems supposed to get their message out? Think of how many few outlets there are in which people hear some actual truth. And even then, we know they're not watching Keith Olbermann, listening to Amy Goodman, or reading The Nation.

If the Dems play it right, they'll shift the focus back to "Bush's miserable record" by clearly stating that he and the Republicans are the ones in power and they've had six lonnnng years to address the NK threat. Like Afghanistan, Iraq, and Katrina before (I could go on...), the party in power has failed, yet again.

9. Was this supposed to have been Rove's
October supprise? I mean after convincing NK to go ahead with the test had been finalized, they couldn't back down, now could they. To bad there have been too many other 'octber supprises' this week for this one to hardly be noticed.

14. The people aren't forgetting
They're adding it up.

First off, for Americans to get mad, they have to be paying attention. Considering that less than half of Americans vote, one must assume that the numbering crimes committed by Dubya play a minor part in the daily lives of our citizens. Also consider that most Americans have a certain innocent belief that their elected officials are not lying, thieving, morally bankrupt human beings. The thought that there are young men and women dying in Iraq for a lie, is incomprehensible - as it should be.

However, the safety of our children is an issue that strikes at the heart of almost every American. It is an issue that speaks through the din of daily living. It is a line in the sand for many many people. It is the last factor in the equation:

No leadership + Lousy economy + Katrina + Dead soldiers + Corruption + Foley = They Lie

And thanks to their values, it's going to hurt the Republicans more than anything else. I'm glad it's being covered 24/7!

18. Worst president in history fielded by the worst political party in
history foisting the worst political agenda in history off on the nation with a complicit worst congressional majority in history. That's the value of the Foley story. It is corruption in a nutshell. Something easily understood by those who don't follow politics and the subtle machinations of the politicos. Get rid of the corruption. Cauterize it.

21. Very true, but the same people who understand the Foley scandal
need to understand how awful Bush is. Our Democratic spokespeople need to do a better job explaining to the American public just how bad a person Bush is. It shouldn't be that hard. I think Democrats are just being too careful for sake of their own political futures.

I think. Then again after what they did to Clinton, let them take the heat on this particular sex scandal.
