Have you heard this about Muslims, Jews and pork?
One of my students is claiming that anybody who requests to not have pork as part of their airline meal is automatically suspected of being Muslim, and therefore a potential terrorist. (Well, at least a Muslim, anyway. I didn't quite catch that part of his rant.) Anybody heard of such a thing?

2. That doesn't make a whole lot of sense
I know it's possible to specifically order kosher airline food, but kosher law is stricter than halal law. So it would be possible to serve anyone with a no-pork preference by giving them the kosher food. Still, I'd bet not too many Muslims would say "give me the kosher meal", so there is probably a halal option. So if you're not eating pork for religious reasons, there's no reason just to say "no pork". Alternatively anyone could just order the vegetarian option, or be like me and just get the fish.

22. I THINK I've gotten ham on a croissant.
Although I wouldn't swear to it. Now, it's usually nothing. Before that, it was usually turkey. I think that before THAT, it might have been ham.

5. eh with dead people and babies being on their "no fly" lists
:eyes:
I wouldn't be surprised....

Whats creepier is that stuff about some creepy technology to allow you to monitor people's facial expressions -anyone remember that? I either read it here or maybe saw it on tv....
That was really creepy.....

seems like they were training security people to monitor facial expressions. i thought it was already in place.

well...air travel being what it is now, how many people can maintain a placid expression on their faces?

15. Some airlines offer separate kosher and halal meals
But by and large, both have the same restrictions, so when there are not two different options, most Muslims will just order a kosher meal (kosher is actually a stricter standard: camel is not kosher but it is halal.) Compare halal and kosher.

So unless the airlines (presumably at the DHS' direct order) are starting with the belief that all observant Jews are suspect, I'd say this is an urban myth.

This is crazy!

10. Kashrut & Halal are very similar dietary laws
Muslims just order kosher meals on airlines.
My local grocery store offers both kosher & halal meats - it's that kind of neighborhood (NYC), and if you ask for halal smoked turkey, you'll get Empire Kosher.
I know that freepers are hung up on Muslims & pork, being ignorant of proscriptions in Jewish dietary laws. Here's a tip: it's not the pork - it's alcohol. While both faiths forbid pork & shellfish, and both have very strict rules about how an animal should be slaughtered, the Jews drink alcohol while it is strictly forbidden to Muslims.

19. Hiya Verse
I also grew up a Seventh Day Adventist, although now I'm more of a "badventist", I still don't touch the dead animals.

Just wanted to say Hi.
I've wondered from time to time if there were any Adventists on DU.

meal ordered is one of the 34 pieces of personal info (including CC number etc), any law enforement agency can request from EU passengers flying to the US. They access and save this info for every passenger to the US.
