Montgomery Marine Latest Casualty in Iraq

The parents of Brad Payne tell WSFA 12 News their son was killed while serving with the marines in Iraq. They say they learned of the incident from military personnel on Friday.

Howard and Carol Payne said they could not speak publicly about their son's death until they talk further with the military.

WSFA 12 News has learned Payne died when his armored vehicle struck a roadside bomb. No other details of the incident were available.

The 24-year-old marine was on his second tour of duty. He leaves behind a wife, Erin Payne, who lives in North Carolina.

The Paynes say they are relying on the support of their church, Vaughn Forest Baptist. They say members of Eastern Hills Baptist, where their son grew up, have also provided support.

The family hopes to release more details soon. Stay with WSFA 12 News for the latest information.

2. A coworker lost his 21 y/o Marine son last month.
I am at a loss for words regarding his son's death in Iraq. I refuse to reveal my true thoughts about the war for fear of disparaging his loss and adding to his heartache and pain. In my opinion this young Marine fought and died for his buddies and for the Marine Corps. I am a former Marine, I know why this kid went willingly to war, it was to be there for his buddies. He is no different than a Marine who died at Iwo Jima or Wake island. No different than a Marine who died at Belleau wood.
I don't know why his commander in chief executed an attack without planning the path to peace. Bush killed this kid due to his incompetence. I hate him for that.

3. These troops sign up in the military for many reasons
All of them honorable. Leave it at that.

Maybe misguided, but honorable.

4. Thank you, buddy.
I'll shed a few tears for both these lost boys.

And let me tell you, I am an ugly old man. ME crying is not anything anyone wants to see. ;)

Jeebus Christmas, will it ever end?
