North Korea to Test Nuke?

There are reports that North Korea is getting ready to test a nuclear weapon. Our words in response have been grave, suggesting military action or a naval blockade at the least.

The problem is, we don’t really have a military card to play. To begin with, our ground forces in Iraq are stretched so thin that only a draft (with the 12-18 month lead time required) would bring enough troops into play to stop a North Korean ground response. We could certainly bomb the hell out of North Korea, but short of using nuclear weapons ourselves (ironic that this even discussed, no?) no bombing campaign would stop North Korea from beginning an artillery and rocket barrage that would level half of Seoul and bring one of the world’s leading economies to its knees.

Of course, if we let North Korea test that nuke with no response on our part, there will be absolutely nothing that we can do to stop Iran from eventually testing their own bomb.
