From WND: Christian leaders facing Soros-funded 'witch hunt'
 This was too funny not to post.

A Washington organization funded by billionaire George Soros has filed Freedom of Information Act requests with the U.S. Secret Service demanding information about the visits by Christians to the White House.

snip:
Wildmon was just one of nine Christian conservative leaders who were named in yesterday's FOIA demand by Citizens for Ethics and Responsibility in Washington.

Others were James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family; Gary L. Bauer, president of Our America Values; Wendy Wright, president of Concerned Women for America; Louis P. Sheldon, of Traditional Values Coalition; Sheldon's daughter Andrea Lafferty; Paul Weyrich, of the Free Congress Foundation; Tony Perkins, of Family Research Council; and Jerry Falwell, of Jerry Falwell Ministries.

CREW said it wanted all records "regardless of format, medium, or physical characteristics" that would relate "to any visit that any and all of the following individuals made to the White House or the residence of the Vice President from January 1, 2001, to the present."

1. They must be ashamed of their visits to the white house and their
relationship to george bush. I think it would more aptly be named a warlock hunt. I see klan member tony perkins is on the list.

2. A highly interesting story. Dobson & Bauer are linked to Abramoff
I wonder why CREW is seeking this information....

3. I would suspect they are building the groundwork to prove that these

(at least some of them) are political organizations, not religious organizations, and are therefore not entitled to the tax exemptions they have.

Just guessing.

ON EDIT: Kinda like going after Capone via the IRS, when the cops were on his payroll.

8. I hope so! Hubby was annoyed over Ralph Reed and Tom Delay after
watching the Moyers special. I would love for Dobson, Robertson, and Falwell to be shown for what they are too.

9. When I hear CREW is burning Christians at the stake...
I'll call it a witch hunt. Until then I'll call it an investigation into the political actions of "non-political" religious organizations.

14. So what are they upset about?
Obviously these fine upstanding Christian organizations have done nothing wrong and have nothing to hide! They should step right up and volunteer the information themselves to save time, effort, and taxpayer's dollars. :sarcasm:

I mean, they're good Christians--right?

16. Oh, get this
"CREW also wants the taxpayers to pay for the costs of records production."

But of course, all these visits to the WH cost nothing to the taxpayer, right? All that valuable time given by elected officials doesn't count, right?

Or this:
"Tom Minnery, a spokesman for Focus on the Family, said his organization wasn't concerned, either, calling it just another attempt by "left-wing bullies" to intimidate conservatives.

"They're unhappy when anybody unlike them runs the playground," he told WND.

Playground is right.

17. Wanna bet the logs will show they met w/ Rove, not Bush
Which is compelling evidence that they should lose their tax exempt status.

No wonder these hypocrites are squirming.

And they just don't get it:

"Tom Minnery, a spokesman for Focus on the Family, said his organization wasn't concerned, either, calling it just another attempt by "left-wing bullies" to intimidate conservatives.

"They're unhappy when anybody unlike them runs the playground," he told WND. <snip>

Right a--hole...because everybody on that "playground" pays 35% tax to the government, except you (Fundie groups).

Once again...who's the "Bully" here?

:grr:

20. This is something that should have been done a long time ago,
About time someone from the "left" had the resources and balls to take a look at the fundie groups political connection's and their tax exempt status.

This is the "base" of the current crop of crapo's running things and you don't chop a tree down by starting at the top of it.

I don't care if Soro's doing this or even Donald Trump, it's about time SOMEONE did!
