For DUers who are interested in consumer issues here is a great site.
http://www.mouseprint.org/?cat=7

I remember several months ago a very alert DUer posted a couple of topics on "re-sizing" of products. At the time, a few DUers sort of snuffed the posts off, some suggesting that what was happening was nothing new and that it's an individuals responsiblity to read labels. Well, God help the people who can't read and lower income folks who usually shop by package rather than label.

I heard about this topic on the radio while driving in my car. This issue is taken very seriously by some people, especially those who have to deal with the poor and underserved among us. To me, these are the kinds of issues that our legislators both state and Federal ought to be paying attention to and calling attention to. Thus, I have posted the link for those of you who are interested and concerned. (I would e-mail this to the DU poster who posted on this but that poster seems to not be among us any longer).

Stay alert!

1. thank you--I have already spread this to my other boards--
everyone needs to know these things. I, on the other hand, am a very careful label reader, and always bitch when a company does this. it also annoys me that "unit pricing" even in the same item, isn't done the same way often, so for people who aren't really good at converting ounces, etc., it can be rather confusing.

3. Great little site....
When you buy for a company, the re-sizing is even worse. I guess the thought is that if you have a more limited supply source, they can do more to the prices.

4. There are some "store brands" or "off brands" that give better bargains.
But this stuff is really another way corporations screw working class Americans who can't afford to buy in bulk. No wonder a can of baked beans no longer feeds a family of four. The average can good has gone from 16 0z. to 12 or 10 1/2 ozs.

5. Thanks for the link. As a person who has subscribed to "Consumer
Reports" for years....I knew about this. They are a good magazine to subscribe to and they are "Online" for subscriber fee. I still like to get the "magazine" version because it sits around for me to read...rather than having to click their link for the latest.

But, I will check out the site you linked.
