Man Sentenced To 8 Years In Prison For French Kissing 10-Year-Old

SANFORD, Fla. -- A 43-year-old Orlando man will spend eight years in prison followed by seven years of probation for French kissing a 10-year-old girl in her bed.

The judge told cabinetmaker Michael Joseph Marra during his sentencing that he wanted to make sure the victim was an adult before Marra was set free.

Marra was convicted in August of lewd and lascivious conduct and simple battery.

The jury rejected more damaging allegations against him. While they believed the victim's testimony about the kiss, they rejected her claims that the defendant came into the bedroom, reached beneath her pajama bottoms and tried touching her inappropriately.

The kiss happened during a weekend party at which Marra was a guest.

1. I think the judge was well intentioned but this'll be ruled excessive

on appeal, that is.

I don't think 'I want your victim to be an adult when you get out' is going to be seen as proper cause in sentencing. Not to mention that parole means he'd get out before that ANYWAY.

I mean it's sick but, if the jury rejected the more serious stuff, only so much you can do with the prisons crowded with those committing more serious crimes. (...And lots and lots of drug offenders, obviously.)

2. Having no information other than that contained in the OP, I have to

wonder how the jury was able to believe that he could French kiss a ten-year old, but wasn't capable of trying to fondle her genital regions. Was that just too much of a stretch for the jury? :shrug:
