SPEAKER HASTERT: There were two pieces of paper out there, one that we knew about and we acted on; one that happened in 2003 we didn't know about, but somebody had it, and, you know, they're trying -- and they drop it the last day of the session, you know, before we adjourn on an election year. Now, we took care of Mr. Foley. We found out about it, asked him to resign. He did resign. He's gone. We asked for an investigation. We've done that. We're trying to build better protections for these page programs.

But, you know, this is a political issue in itself, too, and what we've tried to do as the Republican Party is make a better economy, protect this country against terrorism -- and we've worked at it ever since 9/11, worked with the president on it -- and there are some people that try to tear us down. We are the insulation to protect this country, and if they get to me it looks like they could affect our election as well.

6. I want someone to ask Denny and Bush this question:

"So, as Republicans, what bothers you most: that Foley was using his position of power and authority to prey on those with whom sexual congress would be considered illegal due to age differences? That many in the Republican leadership knew about his problem but did nothing? Or that Foley was a gay man living in the closet and practicing the GOPs special brand of self-hatred? Can we ask Ken Mehlman the same questions please?

7. Boy, they cry when they get caught! Dems just want accountability.

Why did you have a fella in charge of child protection who was pressuring teen pages to talk sexy with him?

Why didn't you investigate early when this first arose?

How can you blame anyone else when this seems to only involve Republicans?

How can this be connected in anyway to the 9/11 attacks?

This has boiled to the top on it's own without a $60 mil investigation,so how can anyone say this is an tearing down process.

Protection is the issue, and it should effect the election.
