We Already Knew About the July Warning, Right Before the August Vacation
Edited on Tue Oct-03-06 11:42 AM by Stephanie

I've posted this about a hundred times in the past but here it is again.

They knew in July, they did nothing to stop it, all they did was try to protect themselves.

The Secrets of September 11
The White House is battling to keep a report on the terror attacks secret. Does the 2004 election have anything to do with it?

April 30, 2003

<snip> Some sources who have read the still-secret congressional report say some sections would not play quite so neatly into White House plans. One portion deals extensively with the stream of U.S. intelligence-agency reports in the summer of 2001 suggesting that Al Qaeda was planning an upcoming attack against the United States—and implicitly raises questions about how Bush and his top aides responded. One such CIA briefing, in July 2001, was particularly chilling and prophetic. It predicted that Osama bin Laden was about to launch a terrorist strike “in the coming weeks,” the congressional investigators found. The intelligence briefing went on to say: “The attack will be spectacular and designed to inflict mass casualties against U.S. facilities or interests. Attack preparations have been made. Attack will occur with little or no warning.”

The substance of that intelligence report was first disclosed at a public hearing last September by staff director Hill. But at the last minute, Hill was blocked from saying precisely who within the Bush White House got the briefing when CIA director Tenet classified the names of the recipients. (One source says the recipients of the briefing included Bush himself.) As a result, Hill was only able to say the briefing was given to “senior government officials.”

Summer Spinning
To GOP, Vacation Boosted Bush Agenda; To Democrats, Voters See a Shirk Ethic
Aug 29

<snip>

The White House had announced that Bush would stay at his 1,600-acre ranch in Crawford from Aug. 4 through Labor Day on Sept. 3, a 31-day stretch that would have broken a modern record for a presidential vacation, held by Richard M. Nixon for a 30-day trip to San Clemente, Calif., in 1969. News reports played up the record, and a Gallup Poll found that 55 percent of respondents thought Bush's vacation was too long.

The length of the trip revived old questions about Bush's work ethic, and the poll and the news coverage caused consternation in the White House. Aides said they had planned an ambitious schedule for Bush as long ago as late June, but reporters were not told about it, even after they landed here. The White House, suddenly defensive, took every opportunity to show Bush on the go and even created a "Western White House" logo for the briefing room at Crawford Elementary School. Bush revealed that his ranch had new video conferencing equipment for keeping in touch with his national security team.

A Working Vacation
Vice President Cheney plans to fish, travel during month-long valley sojourn.
By Angus M. Thuermer Jr.

Vice President Dick Cheney took time off from his month-long working vacation Monday to outline his plans for August in Jackson Hole and to reflect on "an amazing year."

Cheney, who will live at his Teton Pines home about six miles west of Jackson until Labor Day, defended his energy policy, supported a local decision to limit drilling around the Gros Ventre Wilderness, recalled a life of service in Washington and said his health problems are not affecting his ability to fish for trout on his favorite Western waters.

Ashcroft Flying High
WASHINGTON, July 26, 2001

(CBS) Fishing rod in hand, Attorney General John Ashcroft left on a weekend trip to Missouri Thursday afternoon aboard a chartered government jet, reports CBS News Correspondent Jim Stewart.

In response to inquiries from CBS News over why Ashcroft was traveling exclusively by leased jet aircraft instead of commercial airlines, the Justice Department cited what it called a "threat assessment" by the FBI, and said Ashcroft has been advised to travel only by private jet for the remainder of his term.

"There was a threat assessment and there are guidelines. He is acting under the guidelines," an FBI spokesman said. Neither the FBI nor the Justice Department, however, would identify what the threat was, when it was detected or who made it.

2. Why didn't you do anything George?
"The attack will be spectacular and designed to inflict mass casualties against U.S. facilities or interests."

Not one word to the American public about a potential attack. Maybe you can't stop it...but that doesn't mean you shouldn't have given the American people a 'heads up'.

Deriliction of duty. He failed his oath of Office. Impeach all of them.

4. Worldwide Caution - July 5 - Sept 22
http://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/dpb/2001/3978.htm

Dept of State press briefing on July 5

Q: Speaking of the 4th of July, there's a Worldwide Caution out, but a major holiday has passed apparently without incident, I think. Is there any new appraisal of the security situation worldwide you can share with us? I know the Caution is supposed to be in effect until September, I believe.

MR. BOUCHER: The Caution is in effect until September 22nd. It wasn't particularly tied to the 4th of July.

Q: There's extra concern. Usually a major holiday is a time to --

MR. BOUCHER: No, it wasn't -- the 4th of July was not cited in the Caution. We do continue to believe there is an increased risk of terrorist action from extremist groups and recommend that people exercise a high level of vigilance, take appropriate steps to increase their security. So no, nothing has changed in that. If it should change, we will revise the Caution.

MID-JULY 2001
U.S. intelligence reports another spike in threats related to the July 20-22 G-8 summit in Genoa, Italy. The reports include specific threats against Bush, who is to attend the summit. The head of Russia's Federal Bodyguard Service is quoted as saying that Osama bin Laden had threatened to assassinate President Bush at the summit. "In fact, the CIA went on ... a full-court press to try and deal with these potential attacks and, indeed, managed, through these intelligence activities and liaison activities,to disrupt attacks in Paris, Turkey, and Rome."

Genoa braces for G8 summit

July 18, 2001 Posted: 6:29 AM EDT (1029 GMT)

<snip>

The head of Russia's Federal Bodyguard Service has warned of a plot by terrorist Osama bin Laden to assassinate George W. Bush at the summit and the U.S. President may be staying at U.S. Camp Darby military base in Livorno or offshore on the American aircraft carrier, USS Enterprise to avoid any terrorist risk.

There were anti-aircraft missiles installed where he was staying there. Of course they knew airplanes were involved in the threat.

8. I remember Feinstein...
made an appearance on CNN that summer before 9/11 and she was practically frantic because, according to her, there were reports/"chatter" that an attack on US interests was imminent, perhaps within weeks, and she didn't think anyone in the WH was taking the appropriate steps to protect the country. I had never seen her quite so beside herself, except when Moscone was shot here in SF and she had to step in as Mayor.

She made such an impresion that her apearance was one of the first things I thought of when 9/11 happened.

Damn straight they knew something was coming...and Bush & Co. didn't do jack shit.

20. Tenet has a book coming out in the beginning of 2007
I suggest we lobby his publisher to release pertinent excerpts of it NOW. I know everyone is fed up with people in a position to know something vital holding off on publication until after elections. We need these revelations released when they can do the most good for the country, the hell with it looking opportunistic or not.

24. Can anyone please provide a list of what steps were taken to thwart
these reportedly imminent attacks because it would otherwise seem strange that: now-Madame Secretary reportedly advised Mayor Brown not to fly on 9-11, the big-time short sale of airlines stock beforehand, the transfer authority for intercept and shoot down to Rummy weeks before, a parallel mock intercept exercise running on 9-11, then Rummy coming out of his office after the plane had struck the Pentagon, not knowing, if I recall this correctly, that the WTTs and been struck some time before where-after the President read a goat story. Something doesn't quite add up here, but just can't put my finger on it so I need help.
