3. Had coffee this mornin g with a GOP friend...

She and I are great friends despite our political differences. Of course, this means I can joke around with her. I asked her "Hey, I thought you said GOP stood for Grand Old Party. I hear it stands for "Gathering of Pedophiles". :silly:


She agrees that Hastert has to go over this. Neither of us could imagine ignoring this just to save face. They all need to burn in hell.

Of course, Hastert in hell might smell a lot like bacon cooking.

Father-in-Law yesterday was shooting his mouth off

about Shimkus being *his guy, his buddy* - FIL recently used his weight with Shimkus to set up a tour of the Capitol for my partner's niece who is in law school.

Today, after the front page story in the local paper about Shimkus being nose-deep in the crap, he's being really, really quiet.

FIL has one or two skeletons in his own closet, and he knows that I KNOW....

7. The ones I know are reflecting the confusion of their "leaders"

They really don't know WTF to say perhaps because they have yet to receive coherent talking points from those who normally tell them what to think. Of course they all hate them queers, but they're getting mixed messages about the responsibilty of the repub congressional leadership and whether or not fat bastard should resign. And of course there's always "Clinton did it too".

8. Start a mass email like the ones they love to send around.

My father-in law sends us the Rethug email screeds all the time as part of a mass email. Last night I sent his email list this:

Regardless of your political affiliation, all good people share a deep revulsion over the sexual exploitation of children. Imagine if it was your child or grandchild who was the victim of an adult predator. No child should suffer that fate.

We now have all learned that Representative Mark Foley is a sexual predator who has at a minimum been sending sexually inappropriate messages to minors working in Congress. We also know that Foley had a liaison with at least one of these minors and has attempted to arrange meetings with several others. It remains to be known whether he raped any children, but that certainly seems like a possibility given what we do know.

For the past year, members of the Republican leadership in Congress, by their own admission, have been aware of this inappropriate conduct. It appears that nothing has been done to stop this behavior or to discipline Mr. Foley. Even after finding “naughty emails” (as the President’s spokesperson calls them), the Republican leadership in Congress permitted Mr. Foley to particpate actively in the Congressional Page program. The Republican leaders quite simply chose political expediency over protecting children from a known predator.

The American people deserve to know the lengths that Republican Congressional leaders will go to protect their political power. There must be a full investgation of who knew what about Foley’s sexcapades and what was done to stop it. Additionally, any leader who acted to coverup this activity, sacrificing children in the process, must resign from Congress.
