Holy SHIT. "Frist: Taliban Should Be in Afghan Gov't"--FRIST!! TALIBAN!!!
Edited on Mon Oct-02-06 11:58 PM by tuvor
QALAT, Afghanistan -- U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said Monday that the Afghan war against Taliban guerrillas can never be won militarily and urged support for efforts to bring "people who call themselves Taliban" and their allies into the government.

The Tennessee Republican said he learned from briefings that Taliban fighters were too numerous and had too much popular support to be defeated on the battlefield.

"You need to bring them into a more transparent type of government," Frist said during a brief visit to a U.S. and Romanian military base in the southern Taliban stronghold of Qalat. "And if that's accomplished, we'll be successful."

1. But he really really wants to remove Democrats from our government.
I have seen Frist on video and have come to the conclusion that he is clinically insane.

10. Yep
He's a nut. Diagnosing Schiavo, several tirades on the Hill, and now he wants to give away Afghanistan? He's wacked.

6. Of course... just like he and his faction should be in ours.
At least it appears their irony-disconnect is coming loose... they should just embrace their pan-fundamentalist nationalism and go with it. Maybe one day * will rebuild some porches of Taliban warlords and they can all sit back and have a laugh together.

9. Frist actually has a sane idea.
Even though the Taliban have repressive and extremely strict ideas of how Islam should be interpreted shouldn't it be up to the Afghan people how they wish to be represented? If the Taliban were brought into the Afghan Govt. perhaps the violence against the Occupation there and their own people would be greatly minimized. Maybe the Afghans would reject the extremist notions of the Taliban and vote for a more moderate Islam in their country. It is their country, not ours.

12. He's not the first to suggest it.
(And I think you make some good points.)

But I'm sure he's the first bushkisser to suggest it. You just cannot make this stuff up.

8. Frist is nuts.
And he will never be president. This is just the cherry on top. Give Afghanistan to the Taliban? Hell no. We should have replaced those fuckers in the 90's. There is no way we should let them have it now.

14. Wait wait wait. Aren't those the dudes we demolished and
ran out of town? The same ones who torture, kill, rape women and blow up girl's school. So now we have to stay until they're back in power? WTF is that?! :wtf:

The Taliban is there to stay. To not include them in the process would mean never leaving.

20. This is horrible
9/11 showed the world that we are vulnerable to attack. It was a moment of great national embarrassment, regardless of how it was spun into some patriotic wank-fest by the Republicans. Our government failed us. Then, they did a half-assed job in Afghanistan to show token resistance to Al Queda before they moved on to their real objective, IRAQ.
Can you imagine what it will do to our world image if we lose the war in Afghanistan? If we hand Afghanistan back over to the Taliban and Al Queda? How many lives have we lost, how many billions of dollars have we spent, only to put Afghanistan back to square one? Pitiful.

They'd like the Afghanistan front to just go away- they never wanted to deal with it in the first place.

23. This should go well for Corker (R-Candidate for his seat)
As a Ford campaign volunteer and leader of the Business Leaders for Ford in my area, I am loving this quote (although it is VERY scary). Corker has been running around Upper East Tennessee mentioning Frist's name with every breath trying to get the Fundies and the Religous Right vote (since they think Frist loves Jesus more than money). You can bet that the Ford campaign will be using this at every corner in order to sway the 14% of Tennesseeans that are still undecided in the race.

So from a Northeast TN Democrat, I want to thank you Senator Frist for your impecilble timing!

:wtf:

And isn't the Bush Admin/Repug motto "we're not going to back down, we're going to win, we're going to destroy them with all we've got?" Why is Frist backing down and ceding to the terrorists?

It really is true. Black is white and white is black.
