Constitution Day: For Many Americans, It’s Time for the Basics

In observance of Constitution Day this year, millions of American students will interrupt their regular studies to learn more about the most important document in U.S. history.

Millions of American adults should be sitting right alongside them.

The American public is ignorant of basic facts about the Constitution. When asked if they knew any of the three branches of government, two-thirds (68%) of Americans said yes. One-third could correctly name all three; one-third could not name any.

2. Ask the average college grad to point out Arizona on a map

or ask when was the Civil War. The American public is ignorant about a lot of things

5. I saw one of those show where the were asking people to point

out a certain state on the map and one guy, when shown a map of the U.S. said, "That's the U.S. I kid you not, you can't make this kind of stuff up. My wife and me both dropped our jaws on the floor. And to think I felt like a failure in school because I never could get all of the state capitols memorized.

6. I saw a show where the guy said point to NY State and they were in

NYC and the other person couldn't do it! He mentioned he lived in NYC all his life too. I'd say the man was in his 50s. There are a lot of functionally illiterate people
