LANCASTER COUNTY, Pennsylvania (CNN) -- A lone gunman killed as many as six people in a one-room Amish schoolhouse before killing himself, initial reports said.

The man walked into the Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, schoolhouse Monday and ordered some students to leave before opening fire on the remaining students.

Pennsylvania state police spokesman Jack Lewis told CNN that the gunman shot and killed at least three students before turning the gun on himself.

A number of other children have been seriously injured, he said.

He said he did not know the motive for the attack. Watch police investigate shooting scene -- 1:00()

The county coroner said at least six people were killed in the shooting, The Associated Press reported.

Lancaster General Hospital initially received three young patients, ages 6 to 15 -- one in critical condition -- and expects to receive three more patients soon, spokeswoman Kim Hatch told CNN shortly after 1 p.m.

11. nah, it's the proliferation of sociopaths in high places
that allows the other sick ones to come out of the woodwork. Of course, watching some of the sick, tasteless shows on the telly shows how far down the rabbit hole the US has gone.

15. That was the point of Bowling For Columbine that everyone missed.
When I saw Bowling, I didn't see an anit-gun movie. I saw and anti-war, anti-violence movie.

16. The Micro Is Mimicking The Macro
When thieves and murderers occupy ones government tragedy is just a heartbeat away. Television in the US is a corrupt and evil beast. Pity that children do not learn critical thinking. Greed and power lust a very nasty combination. Most people are too fucking stupid to recognize evil when it lies in wait for them. Pity.

17. Could we just fucking hold up on the full extent of the liberal stereotype
and not immediately make sweeping definative statements about the cause being what many of the posts are saying it is.

20. Ban guns.
I know there are many responsible gun owners out there, but all it takes is one lunatic with his/her hunting rifle and people die.

No more guns. Just my opinion of course.

23. That is scary, but too true
My brother, who is an extreme right winger, called me just after I heard about this.

I was really upset by it and asked him what he thought about people who use their "god given" second amendment rights in this way. He replied that if the teacher and/or students had been armed, this would never have happened.

I pointed out to him that that Amish are non-violent and he said that they deserve to die if they "won't" defend themselves.

I don't think I'm going to talk to him anymore. Its just not worth it.
