Bolivian president-elect takes pay cut

Morales, who has vowed to make multinationals pay more into the national economy and to raise Bolivia from its status as one of Latin America's poorest nations, won an 18 December election and will be inaugurated on 22 January.

The 46-year-old coca grower and Aymara Indian said his future salary of about $3600 a month would be slashed to $1800.

Cabinet ministers and all 157 members of Morales' Movement to Socialism party elected to Congress will also take a 50% pay cut, Morales said, adding that the salaries of 157 substitute congressmen - who take over the duties of lawmakers when they are absent - will be reduced to zero.



This is a man that Washington is demonizing.

What welcome words. Let's hope there is no Kissinger, ITT, copper barons, CIA Director, State Department Secretary, George-Dick-PNAC to interfere. No Bolton working out of the UN making other member countries listen to him rant about Morales or Wolfkowitz trying to persuade IMP members that there is evil in that land locked high altitude country. No AEI and Heritage Foundation 'experts' working for PNAC and the reverends to tell us how awful Morales is in scientific or historic terms. No Bechtel to privatize the water of the people of Boliva - plus a few minerals under the topsoil. Will K & R deploy some Blackwater type thugs - or - will the Rev Moon residing next door in Paraguay try to conduct his own war on behalf of Bush, Sr and Moons' faithful Congressmen?

Soon we will probably be hearing that Morales is hosting and funding the newly energized Taliban and the always active al-Queda. And we will hear about Bolivia's nuclear plans. Or we will hear that Morales has a plan to place billions of grams of cocaine on the streets of our country. They may even say that Bolivia sent a little money to fund the hijajckers. Sound boring? The cabal is boring.

They are going to try to assassinate through propaganda to give us another human being target to hate. Hate the well meaning little people of the Andes? They will try.

4. Chimpy hasn't earned one penny of his over paid salary and since

he has become grossly wealthy since before his Tx Gov ship days, he should forfeit his bloated (p)Residential salary. :rofl: Fat chance! This is the same guy who scammed the tax paying citizens of Arlington Texas into paying for a stadium for the Tx Rangers while scamming the owners of the land, ( the Curtis Mathis family) out of their land and after the Court ruled that bush and his bidness partners had to pay up, he refused and came out smelling like a rose. Monies from his insider trading with Harkin Oil while his daddy was Pres. skirting the SEC and investing approx. $600,000 he made over 14 million! Thief!
