Help these boards! Use that 'alert' button whenever necessary.

(From DU rules):

Democratic Candidates and the Democratic Party

Constructive criticism of Democrats or the Democratic Party is permitted. When doing so, please keep in mind that most of our members come to this website in order to get a break from the constant attacks in the media against our candidates and our values. Highly inflammatory or divisive attacks that echo the tone or substance of our political opponents are not welcome here.

You are not permitted to use this message board to work for the defeat of the Democratic Party nominee for any political office. If you wish to work for the defeat of any Democratic candidate in any General Election, then you are welcome to use someone else's bandwidth on some other website.

Democratic Underground may not be used for political, partisan, or advocacy activity by supporters of any political party or candidate other than the Democratic Party or Democratic candidates. Supporters of certain other political parties may use Democratic Underground for limited partisan activities in political races where there is no Democratic Party candidate.

Do not post broad-brush smears against Democrats or the Democratic Party.

And and please alert on me. I am horrified by the failure of our party to stand against tyranny.

5. Oh Oh. I will throw out an assumption here - to make sure
I'm not working against anyone.

Stating a low opinion is not working to defeat.
Stating a grand disappointment is not working to defeat.

Posting a request to sign a petition or meet at homes or on a corner for the purpose of defeating a Dem is 'working' in an organization way demanding effort.

Criticizing a Dem and letting them know we think they are soft, wimpy, and Republican-like is not working, imo.

I hope I understand the rule right.

6. It's TORTURE...not a field trip, not a sewing circle, not a dinner date
Edited on Thu Sep-28-06 10:21 AM by mtnester
Torture dehumanizes, can main and kill, and psychologically and emotionally damage someone for life. That includes their loved ones and friends.

There are people here who absolutely have every RIGHT to call out someone who voted FOR torture. Dem or no Dem.

There is NOTHING in the rules that says I have to call a turd a beautiful flower just because it has a (D) next to its name. There is NOTHING that says I cannot suggest another Dem alternative to said turd.

There is no constructive criticism for someone that votes for torture...ZERO. The thing that makes it WORSE is that someone with a(D) next to their name DID...abrigating the right to HARSHLY criticize that decision because we have to "play nice" and be constructive does not wash on this one.

7. I agree
If Democrats vote for torture, we have to criticize them. Being a Dem does not give them a pass. If I harshly criticize Dems in Congress, that does not change the fact that I support my local anti-torture Dem for House.

We all have minds and can think for ourselves. If I had to toe the party line every time I posted, I wouldn't bother to come here.

8. Some people on these boards need to wake up!
This Country is under assault from within and some posters are worried about alerting on people calling out traitors1 Well hit that button, poster, cause I am going to call it as I see it. And I sure as hell don't like what I am seeing! If the poster can be comfortable with your beloved Democrats selling the poster's butt down the river without a dissenting word and then having the audacity to throw that type of shit in the general audience heres face I am just appalled! What sanctimony. How dare you!

Check that out!!!

9. Alert!
Edited on Thu Sep-28-06 11:12 AM by Marie26
Free-thinkers spotted.

Would I be justified in alerting on this post?

"Do not publicly accuse another member of this message board of being a disruptor, conservative, Republican, FReeper, or troll, or do not otherwise imply they are not welcome on Democratic Underground. If you think someone is a disruptor, click the "Alert" link below their post to let the moderators know."

If you want to follow the rules and all...

11. I don't need to read it. I don't work towards defeating
any dems, I only work to get dems I like elected. I will engage in criticism of those elected officials I choose to who vote for unprecented power for this renegage republican presidency whether some like it or not. You see, being a democrat makes me oppose such a power hungry republican executive branch in the first place.

12. See, and I though that being the opposition party meant that we should
actually oppose their formation of a corporate oligarchy.

I mean, why waste your shot an something as trivial as the abolishment of habeas corpus?

14. "that echo the tone or substance of our political opponents"
I wasn't aware that FReepers were steadfastly opposed to torture and the denial of habeas corpus.

Tell me, when the positions of some elected Democrats echo the same postures taken by FReepers, how the FUCK does anyone know what is or isn't allowed?

I know emotions are high and none of us are pleased with what's going on right now, but some are so blatantly crossing the line it's if they just couldn't wait for an emotional opening in order to spew their anti-Democrat bullshit.
