Torture czar (Cambone) moves up in the Pentagon
Torture czar moves up in the Pentagon

Stephen Cambone, a.k.a. Donald Rumsfeld's “enforcer,” just became the No. 3 man at the Pentagon via executive order. Military leaders are dropping farther and farther down the food chain while civilians with no military or intelligence background wield more secretive and centralized power than ever before:

Pentagon Shakes Up Emergency Hierarchy
WASHINGTON (AP) — Heading a military service isn't quite the position of power it used to be. In a Bush administration revision of plans for Pentagon succession in a doomsday scenario, three of Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld's most loyal advisers moved ahead of the secretaries of the Army, Navy and Air Force.

A little-noticed holiday week executive order from President Bush moved the Pentagon's intelligence chief to the No. 3 spot in the succession hierarchy behind Rumsfeld. The second spot would be the deputy secretary of defense, but that position currently is vacant. The Army secretary, which long held the No. 3 spot, was dropped to sixth.

1. Experience is no substitude for loyalty.
Loyalty to the Bush administration, that is. Not the nation.

5. I would think the opposite. They are cutting themselves
off from these Secretaries when they "demote" them.

6. Bottom line; no military general will become POTUS.
Plus it lets the civilians create huge catastrophes (Iraq, NOLA) and then use the military to fix the problems (all the while making huge amounts of money for campaign supporters). God knows we can't let generals pick and choose our battles! Rummy the Dummy has to do it!
