My letter to my rep re: The delay for DeLay
For those who don't know about this yet, Hastert has delayed Congress reconvening until Jan 31 to give Tom DeLay time to settle his legal problems. I just called my congressman's office but only got voice mail. So I left a message and then sent him this email. I am encouraging all DUers who are outraged by this partisan ploy (for Tom DeLay no less) to do the same.

I am OUTRAGED by the 'delay for DeLay'. We pay our representatives to represent US, not to help a soon to be felon (and ex-Congressman) fight his own legal battles.

I am encouraging ALL Democrat Representatives to return to work BEFORE Jan 31 and communicate to the country that they take their responsibilities seriously. Even if Congress does not convene before Jan 31, you will be sending a powerful message to your constituents and the citizens of this country.

Let the Republicans play partisan politics all they want. Please take the high road and refuse to participate in the 'delay for DeLay'.

Thank you,

2. How Cool Would That Be To Have All The Dems Show Up....
and no Repugs. Maybe they can do like Senator Warner did and slip some favorable bills by voting amongst themselves. Wouldn't it look bad for the Repugs if CSPAN shows only Dems waiting around for the Repugs to show up. When interviewed they can then broadcast to everyone the tactics that Hastert is trying to pull.

If Hastert knew that this is what the Dems will do - he will be forced into action before Jan 31st. What a great strategy. Not only should our representatives know about this - send to Dean as well - so maybe he can rally the troops.

Hastert is on the House side. What is going to happen in the Senate? Will they convene before the 31st?

3. They may not be able to convene if only the Dems are there
but that isn't the point.

Think of the image of Dem reps sitting on the steps, waiting for the Repubs to show up - a couple weeks before Jan 31. POWERFUL.

Yes, I believe I heard the Senate will reconvene next week.

4. Besides being the right thing to do...
...if every Dem showed up for work with out the rethugs, it would be a PR coup!!! Reminiscent of an episode of West Wing (Shut Down?). For the Dems to show up ready to do the peoples work and the rethugs to be at home stalling for a criminal, playing political games, there would be a huge backlash against the rethugs in '06 and probably '08.

Thanks for the inspiration to call/write to Congressman Blumenhauer. :hi:

6. Great letter!
I will just make sure I get that off so my Representative can plan to be hard at work before the Thugs get in.

8. I wrote TWO of them so far.
I live in one state and work in another. So I am technically a tax payer in two different districts. So I wrote both of them.

9. This Is A Great Idea - Let's Vote This To The Greatest So More DUer's ...
could see and call, e-mail, fax or write their Representatives. This is a 'godsend' opportunity for the Dems to pull off a real PR coup. And if the Repugs get whiff of this and show up - it can still be a win for the Dems - because they made Hastert have to pull back on his "Delaying for DeLay".

10. I have another thread I started on this topic last night
and it is in Greatest already.

But please we need to keep this kicked. Write your congress critters everyone. Or call. They are home now and it is a local call.

I also just posted contact info in my state forum. May I politely suggest we all do the same for each of our states?
