Are we safer since 911? Any definative studies?
My Repug sparring partner here at work says we're safer since 911. Are there any mainstream studies that agree or disagree with that?

His position on domestic spying is that it must be working because there have been anymore attacks since 911. I have to remind him that 1) no attacks in the US and 2) it was 8 years between the 2 attacks on the WTC.

any help is appreciated.

ps - the discussion got heated this morning when he said that the President swore to defend the US people and I said he was wrong; the President swears to defend the Constitution! It shut him up (temporarily)

2. We'll be "safer" until ...

We'll be "safer" until GW Bush's BOZO border policies gets us hit again. Than we'll need more draconian state powers.

3. no, we're not... the extremists are winning
and that includes extremists of many different stripes. Whenever a zealot is in control, I don't feel safe. Zealots don't use things like logic and science or even history to make decisions. They use only their pragmatic dogma.

That scares the hell out of me. :scared:

Nation remains at great risk of terrorist attack, commission members say
Updated: 2:21 p.m. ET Dec. 4, 2005
WASHINGTON - The United States is at great risk for more terrorist attacks because Congress and the White House have failed to enact several strong security measures, members of the former Sept. 11 commission said Sunday.

“It’s not a priority for the government right now,” said the former chairman, Thomas Kean, ahead of the group’s release of a report Monday assessing how well its recommendations have been followed.

“More than four years after 9/11 ... people are not paying attention,” the former Republican governor of New Jersey said. “God help us if we have another attack.”

7. Since drunk drivers kill WAAAAY more people than terrorists...
... and since there are just as many drunks on the roads today, I'd say, no, we are not safer.

... for getting the message across.
It doesn't then take much to remind folks about prison guards - like our good American boys and girls at abu Ghraib.

Even though I don't believe them in their report findings and stuff even they say we're not safer since 911 and gave Bush an F.
