Karr rejects plea deal offer in child porn case
Agreement would have let one-time JonBenet murder suspect go free

Updated: 2 hours, 13 minutes ago

SANTA ROSA, Calif. - One-time JonBenet Ramsey murder suspect John Mark Karr rejected a plea deal offer from prosecutors that would have freed him on probation in exchange for a guilty plea on child pornography charges, his lawyer said Thursday.

"My client has maintained his innocence throughout these proceedings, and he is not going to plead guilty to a crime that he did not commit," Karr's attorney, Robert Amparan, told the San Francisco Chronicle. "We have no intention of accepting that offer."

The deal, presented Tuesday, would have waived three of the five misdemeanor child porn possession charges against Karr if he pleaded guilty to the two remaining ones. He would get credit for time served, would be placed on probation for three years and would be required to register as a sex offender.

Karr, 41, remained in Sonoma County jail Thursday on $200,000 bail. His trial date was set for Oct. 2.

1. They lost the evidence.
That is if they had any to begin with. This whole thing stinks from Bangkok to Boulder. Karr would be an idiot to accept a deal on a case that is about to die from prosecutorial negligence.

3. "Say it ain't so, John! Say it ain't so!"
Poor ol' John Mark Karr, his fifteen minutes of fame are dwindling to a close and he's desperate to remain the center of attention for just a teensy bit longer. There he was, ready to take the fall for JonBenet's murder, even though he had nothing to do with it, yet now he's quibbling over a pathetic misdemeanor plea-bargain. Hanging onto the limelight by his fingernails, is John. And right there next to him is Rita.

4. I know the former prosecutor in this case: I'm not surprised by this.
And damn I hope Rita are those clowns are not in town; tourist season just ended and we Santa Rosans would like some piece and quiet.

5. $200,000 bail for misdemeanors?
Just give Rita even more to gasp about.
