ANTI-BUSH PROTESTERS ASSAULTED BY POLICE
After being assaulted by police during a non-violent protest at the UN and then jailed overnight, Episcopal minister Fr. Luis Barrios of NYC has been charged with felony assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct. Disabled Iraq war veteran Geoffrey Millard was also held overnight and charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. Both were released this morning. Funds are now needed to continue the struggle.

You can demand the Charges be Dropped by calling or emailing:

Mayor Bloomberg: PHONE 311 (or 212-NEW-YORK outside NYC)/FAX (212) 788-2460; E-MAIL: http://www.nyc.gov/html/mail/html/mayor.html
Office of Robert Morgenthau, Manhattan District Attorney: (212) 335-9000

Here is my email to the mayor:

I am writing to ask that all charges be dropped against the "UN 16." They were exercising their First Amendment Constitutional right of freedom of speech and freedom to address their grievances to the government by engaging in non-violent civil disobedience. They were assaulted by members of your police force – they were not physically resisting arrest. In bringing the charge of “war criminal” to Mr. Bush, these people spoke for me. Now I am speaking for them – please drop all charges against them. The ones who need to be arrested are those who are leading our country down the wrong path, through lies, torture, and illegal spying – the very people the “UN 16” are trying to bring attention to. What these protesters did was noble and loyal to the Constitution. They should be given a medal, not have charges assessed against them.

8. I can't disagree with you there but so far the American people
have shown that they have no spine to deal with this regime.

9. Is this post saying the police lied about protesters resisting
,and being combative? The police would not say something that was not true would they? Are they allowed to put fasle information in a police report?

16. When are
a MILLION people going to surround the White House and SCREAM that BUSH LEAVE and not Move until he DOES?

When are TWO Million going to do it?

The time is coming when we have to do things the media cannot deny are happening, like surrounding the WHite House and demanding these monsters LEAVE our COUNTRY.

It's also time for a Nation Wide Strike. Spend no money, do NOT go to work, do not buy gasoline, scare the shit out of them. we can take turns, a few million at a time so that people who need to eat or work can do it, while others take their place. an ongoing national strike that costs them BILLIONS.

18. The symbolman speaks truth
They ignored a couple hundred thousand of us a year ago. The UN protest got nothing and October 5th will get nowhere either. This administration is completely ignoring the will of the people on many issues and will continue to do so unless the are forced somehow.

19. here's my email to Mayor Bloomberg
"Please drop all charges against the war protesters recently arrested by the NYPD, who look like thugs when they arrest a priest and Iraq War vets. This will be very bad publicity for NYC and the policemen if you pursue charges. What's more, we still have freedom of speech, the right to assemble and the right to petition the government guaranteed by our Constitution. I trust you would not change that or allow the police to forget it."
