General Wesley Clark spoke at a rally for "Veterans for Claire" in St. Louis.

"Since 9/11, we've seen a lot of phony patriots in this country. I've seen a lot of people who put that American flag on their lapel -- and I love that flag. Like a lot of you, I fought for that flag, I've served under it, I've saluted it, and I've seen brave men and woman buried under it. And that flag doesn't belong to any political party, that flag belongs to the United States of America and our people -- but I am real tired of seeing people put that American flag on their lapel and then vote against what's right and what's necessary for the men and women who served and for the success of our forces in combat. That's flat wrong.

"What I know about Claire McCaskill is she'll be a real patriot. She'll ask the tough questions. She'll hold our government's leaders accountable. And oh boy, I pity the time when Don Rumsfeld has to go head on head with Senator Claire McCaskill. And she's going to support what's right for our veterans."
