Congressman Conyers: Torture is Torture
There was an op-ed piece from Eugene Robinson in the Washington Post that I believe deserves some attention. Mr. Robinson is as outraged by torture as much of the rest of the civilized world.

It is not possible for our elected representatives to hold any sort of honorable "debate" over torture. Bush says he is waging a "struggle for civilization," but civilized nations do not debate slavery or genocide, and they don't debate torture, either. This spectacle insults and dishonors every American.

While I am glad that Republicans such as McCain and Warner have come around to the Democratic way of thinking that torture is a bad idea, I am still appalled that we have to have this debate.

The House will soon consider legislation that the President has demanded should allow for the continued treatment of prisoners in a manner that is consistent with torture. There is just no way to sugar coat this. As Eugene Robinson said today, torture is torture. And no civilized country should be debating whether this is acceptable.

1. Torture is torture
John Conyers is a brave and righteous man. Would that the rest of the Dem leadership would follow his lead.

2. Conyers shows this integrity again
He is right, we shouldn't even have to debate such a thing. At the first whisper of torture, this should have been shouted down by everybody who heard it. This is proof that this is the worst, most corrupt administration ever.

7. Torture is torture - No debate
It's that simple.

Bush, and anyone who supports any debate on torture, has got to go.
