Personally, I've decided to start using the disaproval number rather than the approval number. Here's why. ...
During the couple administrations preceding George W. Bush, presidential ratings were generally above 50% approval. That's a good number to have, and was thus trumpeted as an accomplishment... 40% approval is not a good number to have, it is not an accomplishment.
Recently on the news, I've heard "President Bush has gone back up to 40%" sound like something good that's happened. It's only a reminder that the freak-nuts are still out there, and still better at spinning things than we are.
As Democrats, we should trumpet the LESSER of the stats. That said, "60% disapprove of Pres. Bush's job as president" sounds a LOT worse than "40% approve..."
60% says so much more about the actual situation. DISAPPROVE is a strong word. It makes me feel like I'm not alone.
