Look at his profile on the "Foundation for Defense of Democracies" (a very suspicious organization).Look for the connection to PBS/ABC. Bush Ambassador Appointment as a "reward" for what?

Mods: I'm posting the whole Bio because it's from the FFDOD Website which doesn't seem to have Copyright problems...but will edit if you think it's a problem.

Amb. Richard W. Carlson
Vice Chairman
The Foundation for the Defense of Democracies

Richard Carlson is Vice Chairman of the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, a policy institute focusing on terrorism. He has experience in journalism and diplomacy and is a former United States Ambassador.

Carlson was director of the Voice of America for the last six years of the Cold War, the longest running director-general in the 50-year history of VOA. He ran the worldwide radio network, which broadcast 24 hours a day in about 50 languages to an audience of more than 130 million people, with a fulltime staff of 3,000 and a part-time staff of 1200. He was also responsible for Radio Marti to Cuba and led all US government overseas TV broadcasting, including USIA Film and TV Service and World Net, from 1985 to 1991.

For four years, Carlson was a member of the U.S. delegation to the annual US-USSR Information Talks in Moscow and Washington, D.C. During the same period, he led official U.S. government delegations to the People's Republic of China, to Georgia, USSR, and to Moldavia, USSR. He addressed the Israeli Knesset in 1990 (jointly with Malcolm Forbes, Jr.) and the British House of Commons (jointly with Richard Branson) in July 1993. Carlson has testified dozens of times before various U.S. Congressional committees, including the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the House Foreign Relations Committee. In 1994, Carlson was an international observer at the first democratic elections in South Africa. In the summer of 1997, he was an international observer at the Parliamentary Elections in Albania, overseeing polling places in the lawless region near the Greek border. He has been involved in negotiations on behalf of the U.S. government with many foreign governments, including those of China, Korea, the USSR, Germany, Costa Rica, Belize, Liberia, Botswana, Lesotho, South Africa, Morocco and Israel. He is a long-time member of the European Broadcasting Union and the Asian Broadcasting Union.

Carlson was President and CEO of The Corporation for Public Broadcasting for five years. CPB is the parent organization for PBS and NPR. He was also President and CEO of King World Productions Public TV of New York and LA, until the company was bought by CBS in the summer of 1999. Carlson is a former US ambassador to the Seychelles, a country of more than 100 islands off the coast of East Africa. He was appointed by President George H.W. Bush. He is also a board member of the Institute for the Study of Terrorism & Political Violence in Washington, DC, where he lives.

Richard Carlson is an experienced print and broadcast journalist. He has written, produced and directed three documentary films for ABC TV and one for NBC TV. “Hello Again-With Rod McKuen," was about the poet and songwriter Rod McKuen's search for his missing father. It won a Hollywood Emmy and a “Golden Mike” and was made into the book, "Finding My Father” by Rod McKuen. Carlson has won two other Hollywood Emmy's and two other “Golden Mike” Awards for investigative reporting and was once the head of the ABC-TV Investigative Unit in Los Angeles, which specialized, in long-term corruption and malfeasance investigations. Carlson was also a general-assignment reporter and columnist for United Press International and has written hundreds of magazine and newspaper stories. TUCKER CARLSON ATTACKS Arianna Huffington/ DEFENDS HIS FATHERS DEFENSE OF SCOOTER LIBBY ...in his own words:

A nasty little propagandist by Tucker Carlson

Liberal columnist Arianna Huffington wrote a blog attacking me for not revealing that my father has given money to Scooter Libby's legal defense fund. Her points were absurd, her tone was nasty. The fact that she dragged a member of my family into it made me red-in-the-face mad. I would have loved the chance to tell her this in person, and we tried. Unfortunately, a few hours ago a woman who identified herself as Arianna's quote, "chief of staff" informed us that Huffington would not be coming on the show tonight. That's a shame. But I'd still like to make a few quick points:

I didn't mention my father's support for Scooter Libby because it was irrelevant. Completely and utterly. Libby was my father's personal lawyer long before he joined the Bush administration. They're friends, and that has nothing at all to do with me. I've met Scooter Libby precisely once.

My position on Patrick Fitzgerald's ongoing leak investigation has been the same since the day that investigation started. I haven't changed a word I've said or written on the subject to suit anyone else's opinion, including my father's.

Arianna could have criticized my views about Scooter Libby. That would have been fair. But she didn't. In fact, she didn't bother even to address them. Instead she went immediately for the most personal of attacks, dragging a member of my family into it. As if my father is responsible for what I believe.

This isn't honest political debate. It's attempted character assassination by a nasty little propagandist. Arianna Huffington ought to be ashamed of herself. I wish I could tell her that to her face.

4. So they put the guy who ran GHWB's Cold War propaganda to head PBS
That would explain a lot about PBS and NPR programming at the time. This guy is a psychological warfare specialist.

Does anyone else see a conflict of interest here?

6. Of course, Carlson has no vested interest
Edited on Thu Sep-07-06 07:58 PM by JulieRB
in covering a story that a member of his immediate family is a) not only Libby's former attorney, but b) he's donated financially to a "defense fund".

Where did Tucker Carlson go to journalism school -- or did he get his "degree" from one of those correspondence courses typically advertised on the inside of a matchbook?

Let me spell it out for him verrry sloooooooowly. I know Tucker doesn't comprehend what he reads. It's called a c-o-n-f-l-i-c-t o-f i-n-t-e-r-e-s-t, Tucker, whether you like it or not. To trash Patrick Fitzgerald's investigation of Mr. Libby repeatedly and NOT disclose your family's involvement in it is a conflict of interest.

By the way, for anyone interested, Mr. Carlson does not have a journalism degree. He went to Trinity College in Connecticut and believed it to be "a waste of time". Seeing as how I have no college degree, either, I would say that I am now qualified to have a show on MSNBC. One thing's for sure, it would get higher ratings.

Julie

8. Both a-holes
Tucker was on defending that ABC "docu-drama", Path to 911, saying they have a right to some 'freedom of expression' when presenting these shows. Funny how he couldn't see the connection in an election year. A complete asshole, and apparently runs in the family.

11. This is why Tucker get's "Special Treatment" and why he Lies on his
show. When Dan Abrams took over MSNBC Tucker got two hours instead of one. Who wants to bet that Abrams Dad, Floyd (the high powered lawyer) knows Tuckers poppy. MSNBC is in danger of being seen as the "Crony" cable news channel.
