Police Taser knife man (Sun Headline... Makes you think)

A MAN brandishing two knives in a pub was last night shot by police using a Taser gun.

Police officers were called to the King's Arms Hotel in Keighley, West Yorkshire, following reports of a man carrying two knives. Armed police challenged the man and then shot him with a Taser gun before arresting him shortly before 11pm.

Nobody, including the suspect, was injured.

The man was already wanted by police after allegedly threatening his partner with a knife, a West Yorkshire police spokesman said.

"The man was challenged in the pub, which was empty of other customers, by armed officers who deployed Taser against the man when he refused to surrender the knives or co-operate with the police," the spokesman said.

1. Better equipment

Could you possibly be making a backhanded reference to the recent shooting on New Orleans' St. Charles Avenue, by any chance? I spend enough time on NOLA rebuilding boards that it's cutting into my DU time, and the local people there don't think the NOPD even has Tasers.

Pity. One of my comrades over there, also a DUer, developed a concept for an N.O.-based reality show in which any contestant who runs afoul of the ever-changing rules gets Tasered senseless by him personally. Reading that made me want to Taser lots of people senseless... can't name names, obviously; lurkers, y'know...

2. I missed the video that spawned so many threads.

It sounded pretty barbaric - as did many of the threads condoning the shooting. To me it sounded like the guy was mentally ill and the cops gunned him down.
