BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Talks between the United States and Iraq over the transfer of operational command of Iraq's armed forces were deadlocked on Sunday, with Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki demanding more independence from the U.S. military.

A day after the dispute forced an embarrassing delay of a signing ceremony in Baghdad, an Iraqi Defense Ministry source said disagreements remained over the wording of a document that outlines the new relationship between U.S.-led occupying forces and Iraq's new military.

"There are some disputes between the two parties. We have our own point of view and they have theirs. We want thorough control and want the freedom to make decisions independently," the source told Reuters on condition of anonymity.

Saturday's ceremony to transfer control of Iraq's army from U.S. commander General George Casey to the Iraqi Defense Ministry had been hailed by U.S. officials as a big step towards Iraq taking responsibility for security.

1. US wants to hand over command. Iraq wants control.
They are not the same as far as the US sees it.

2. This is bad news for Bushco

This will be part of more growing trouble as the Iraqi regime starts to demand what we've been trying to pretend they have: sovereignity. Remember all that Bushwa couple of years ago about "we'll leave if they ask us to?" Thats going to be shown up for the BS it is.
It will be amazing to see Bush's meme after they ask us to leave and I hope they do ASAP

Once the big handover occurs, things will go back to war/killing/etc.

The b*sh regime just likes show- toppling statues, elections, more elections- culminating in "mission accomplished". Oh wait, that was a long time ago.

I don't know what the next benchmark will be? Last throes? Dead enders?
