I can't afford to go to U of C but I think there is much to learn from the links on this page. http://www.meaning.org/levinebio.html#articles We do not have to agree with everything to learn of course. But I as a fairly well informed person as compared to folks who don't even have or care a bout a clue (not as compared to most DU'ers of course:) am amazed that I did not know more about this fellow and his work until someone posted a bit from (gag me) FOX news. you can find the tube link for this here: http://sabbah.biz/mt/ Ugh, DAVID Horowitz/what a HORROR he is!
So then I googled and found the above site which has many wonderful links to important information, including of course his new book. BUT much more then that.
"Remarkable... a riveting discussion, incredible depth of knowledge... complicated and evocative sure to be enjoyed." National Public Radio
"The best description I've seen yet of the situation about the riots in France and beyond." Dave Ross, KIRO 710 radio, Seattle
"An important book and sure to be provocative." ABC Radio
"A great book, and important to read to gain the necessary understanding of what's going on in the Middle East" Sam Seder, Majority Report, Air America Radio

http://hnn.us/blogs/37.html this is his blog on a History/ NEWS froum The book ; well I think I might get it, but there is much to learn from the many links on this web site as well.

Well I know I don't hate US, but I sure do hate some of the BU**SH** we are living through and the many tragedies throughout our world related to the Bush regime.

Edited on Sat Aug-26-06 11:10 AM by jarnocan
so this is a list of links, also interested if others have read much of his work, so is it OK to have it in GD????
excerpts from articles)
As a musician he has recorded, performed and toured all over the world with artists including Mick Jagger, Chuck D, Michael Franti, Dr. John, Ozomatli, Hassan Hakmoun, Arab/Muslim heavy metal and hiphop artists The Kordz (Lebanon), MC Rai (Tunisia), Salman Ahmed (Junoon--Pakistan),Reda Zine (Morocco), Ghidian Qaymari (Palestine), blues greats Johnny Copeland and Albert Collins, world music artists Sara Alexander and al-Andalus, and numerous R&B and hiphop acts. He was also a lead organizer of both of 2000's wildly successful Shadow Conventions and the Re-Imagining Politics and Society Conference, both sponsored by dozens of America's leading progressive organizations and which brought together hundreds of leading scholars, politicians, activists and artists from the US and around the world. He is also a founding member of the Culture Jamming movement, and has organized and hosted culture jams in the US, Europe and Middle East that have brought into much-needed dialog an innovative combination of leading artists, intellectuals and activists from Jonathan Kozol to Jello Biafra.....

...He remains singularly unafraid to write the truth, no matter who it upsets, based solely on facts and data he can confirm, as well as to challenge the actions and opinions of rulers and ruled, oppressed and oppressor alike....
....He also is the editor, with Viggo Mortensen and Pilar Perez, of Twilight of Empire: Responses to Occupation, which features leading scholars and activists from the US and the Muslim world writing about the US occupation of Iraq (including Naomi Klein, Mike Davis, Nadia Yassine, Jerry Quickley, Amir Hussein, Jodie Evans, Amb. Joseph Wilson, and others
(like wow I'm a big J.Kozol fan from way back.) Quite the Renaissance young man-interesting????

2. I wonder if
one of the problems in our society is that hateful people like Ann Coulter and David H. get so much attention, and decent. brilliant people who are thoughtfully trying to address valid concerns and seek genuine solutions are ignored?
Anyone read his book? think it will out sell Ann's?
