Why does he hate America?

Former President Bill Clinton caught the game at Shea Stadium, and a camera caught him snoozing during the eighth inning with the Cardinals clinging to a 7-6 lead. Fortunately, Clinton rose to the occasion for Carlos Beltran's game-winning two-run homer in the ninth, waking in time to high-five fans sitting around him. Indeed, Shea Stadium in this turnaround season has certainly resembled a place called Hope.

becomes bulbous. That's what's going on with Bill. My father has the same thing going on with his nose and he's very self conscious of it. For years people thought the casue of it was an alcohol-related thing. It's not. WC Fields had severe rosacea. Bill has had laser treatments and it looks a lot better then it used to but the bulbous nose of rosacea is harder to treat.

I guess a lot of people think so, I watch my Phillies whenever I can but some games can be pretty dull. I hate the Mets though, so if Clinton falls asleep during one of their games, no biggie.

it's something you can have on in the background as you're making dinner, or playing around on DU. At the game, you can chat with your friends between pitches, or catch a quick catnap as middle relief is warming up.

to see in person. You also get much more of the strategy when you go to a game. The focus on the pitcher batter relationship that dominates the way baseball appears on teevee means that you miss the careful orchestration of fielders relative to specific hitters (they show it usually only for extreme shifts, and sometimes not even then).

Best sport to watch on teevee: Hockey.
Best sport to watch in person: Baseball.

14. My granddad watched his home team in Charlestown WV

and every other game he could., with the TV blaring and him sound asleep in his beat-up red recliner. He'd wake up every now and then and jot some statistic or score down on his TV guide, and fall back asleep with his hearing aid turned down.

There is no doubt in my mind that Clinton has done far more good since leaving office than Bush has done with all the power of the Presidency since taking office in 2001. Of course the bar is set pretty low due to the fact that Bush has not done a single good thing as President.

Albert Pujols hit two homeruns, one of which was a grand slam. That put the Cardinals up 7-1. In the bottom half of that inning, Carlos Delgado hit a grand slam for the Mets, also his second homerun of the game, making the score 7-5. Mets tacked on another, and it held in hairy defense until the bottom of the ninth, when Carlos Beltran hit a two-run walk-off homer. Not one of the 49,000+ had left.

I understand Clinton is an older guy, even though my grandfather never fell asleep at Shea when he used to take me in, well into his 80's. That's fine. I also understand that one of the great things about baseball asd a spectator sport (the best in-person spectator sport there is, in my opinion) is that you don't have to pay constant attention to the game, and can suddenly be into it when a crucial situation arises. I get that. That said, anyone who thinks baseball is boring is either 1) stupid, 2) a douchebag, or 3) completely lacking in nuance or subtlety. But that's just my opinion.

This happened NOT to be a "boring" game at all, even if you think baseball is boring. The NY Times called it one of the most exciting games of the season, too, so it ain't just me...;-)

29. I was watching that game on TV

and IMHO was one of the most exciting games all year...I loves me some Carlos Beltran. I remember when the camera panned on him mid-snooze and the announcers made a few silly comments like "c'mon Mr. President, wake up" nothing serious. I actually found it kind of funny. No doubt that the freepers will run with this claiming that this is proof that Clinton hates America.
