BREAKING NEWS: (rumored) new AAR schedule
Edited on Thu Aug-24-06 02:40 PM by Rosco T.
This is from the WFMU blog.. they've been accurate in the past, but still call this RUMOR

-----------------------------------------

Again, this is just another hot fresh rumor, and things could change, but THIS is the way I’ve heard the weekly schedule is going to go change, coinciding with the NYC move from WLIB to WWRL September 1--

5 AM to 6 AM - The Mark Riley Show
(For the network. This will not be heard in New York, except via the web.)

6 AM to 9 AM - “The Young Turks”
(Also for the network, and will not be he heard on WWRL either. Only on the web locally. New York City gets Bush flunky Armstrong Williams every morning!)

HOT DIGGITY DAMN!

9 AM to Noon - Sam Seder
(Don’t know if it will still be called “The Majority Report” or the “The Sam Seder Show,” or maybe “F.U.B.A.R.!”)

Noon to 3 PM - The Al Franken Show

3 PM to 6 PM - The Randi Rhodes Show
(Yes, now three hours...)

6 PM to 8 PM - The Rachel Maddow Show

8 PM to 9 PM - Politically Direct
(David Bender’s weekly show becomes a nightly affair)

9 PM to 10 PM - Eco Talk
(Another weekend show goes nightly)

10 PM to 1 AM - The Mike Malloy Show
(Malloy returns to NYC radio, but as before the last hour is cut off here to allow WWRL to broadcast something else.)

-------------------

AND news from the EcoTalk blog says that their sponsors now include

Autodesk,
Winslow Management,
Better World Club,
SRI In the Rockies,
Organic Valley,
and Sun Microsystems.

Lose one daily show (Springer) gain THREE NEW DAILY SHOWS

But otherwise, interesting line-up. Wish they could have gotten Stephanie Miller in there somewhere.

15. Not to start a fight but......
Have you actually ever listened to Springer on AAR? His TV show is trash aimed at trailer trash, and when I heard he was going on AAR I felt like vomiting. And he agrees with me on that subject almost every day..... LOL

But...

Then a funny thing happened. I started listening to Jerry after Rachel Maddow (DAMN I Wish I could marry a woman that smart and attractive) via the web at work. I am a total AAR junkie I listen all day till I get home and veg with geek games and TV LOL. I have actually found him to be very well informed and very reasonable. He is definitely capable of making "conservatives" who call to shill for Bush, look like idiots with reason.

And yeah I hate that Randi is loosing an hour too, but I think it will focus her more.

Just my two cents.

17. Comments on the new schedule
"Of cooooourse!" The Young Turks are a great improvement over "Jerry-rigged on the radio". BTW, Cenk Uygur is a former Republican. Their style is slightly irreverant and a mix of politics and pop culture.

Randi down to three hours... Good move.

Sam in the morning. Another good move.

Malloy on a new two year contract... Hooray!!! Gotta have a fire breather in the evenings. If you're a Malloy fan, you can stream the "Lion of the Left" (Bernie Ward) from KGO San Francisco immediately afterwards.

Two hours of Maddow in the evening... Good, her program is tight as hell.

Expanding daily programming with EcoTalk and Politically Direct... Great. I never get to hear these. Now I'll be able to tune in.

Don't forget "Ring of Fire" on the weekends. It's a really good one.

I think Air America Radio has turned the corner. This is an excellent schedule. The only thing that could improve it would be to revive "Morning Sedition".

With a laptop in the bedroom and a wireless connection, streaming the actual schedule is a delight before bedtime. Bernie right after Malloy is a great way to top off the evening. Now if I could stay awake for Ray T - but sleep is also a priority. :)

Edited on Thu Aug-24-06 11:09 PM by longship
Mike Malloy -- Fire breathing liberal on AAR 7PM-10PM PDT.
Bernie Ward -- The "Lion of the Left" on KGO 810AM from San Francisco 10PM-1AM PDT.
Ray Taliaferro -- Another fire-breather, also from KGO 1AM-5AM PDT.

Ya gotta have a strong stomach for ten continuous hours of take no prisoners, no holds barred liberalism. I love this shit. I wish I could listen every single night.

47. Yep I go to bed with
Mike, Bernie and Ray every night - but usually fall to sleep during Bernie - and then listen to last bit of Ray's show and catch what I miss on the archives in the mornig - but now with Sam on in the morning I'm going to have to change my whole archiving routine.

So except from 8:00 AM - 9:00 AM ET I have all my favorites straight through from 10:00 PM until noon - COOL!!!!

Anyone know how to save those KGO archives - sometimes I can't get to them within the 24 hours...

20. 5-9 a.m. WWRL: You aren't being fair.
Sam Greenfield is teamed with Armstrong Williams, and I think the show is provocative with the two viewpoints, and Sam lobs some good volleys that Armstrong can't reach. Give it a chance for that alone, and then make up your mind. If you've never heard Sam Greenfield, you're missing a lot.

Yeah for the Springer-Seder trade!!! I think Sam has made great strides in radio since I first heard him and he is in top form, Springer sucked, and continues to suck.

Randi down to three like everyone else is probably better for her....

I used to love having her with me on the way to work. They replaced her with Jim Defete, who does local politics -- boring!

Now at least Rachel's on when I'm home. (I've been playing Charles Mingus CDs to work. I can't listen to the legislative election issues, yawn.)

"The Young Turks" in morning drive is not a bad idea. They've already got an established show currently carried on three stations and Sirius Left. Sounds like they could use a boost.

32. Hmm mixed bag for me....
My best times to listen are during the workday, mountain time. The means I usually get Randi's show and Al's show. Ok, I could have gotten springers show or whatever comes on before Al, but I don't like it.

The shows I want to hear are:

Randi
Sam Sedar
Rachel Maddow
(Mike Malloy) but he always comes on too late for me

So YAY for being able to hear sam instead of Al (just like him better, to each their own) but major BOO for having Al instead of Randi in the slot when I get to listen to AAR the most!! :(

35. SECOND PART OF SCHEDULE CHANGE CONFIRMED!
from the MajorityReportRadio.com BLOG-

August 24, 2006

Thank You

We recieved nearly 14,000 emails of support which I think had a big hand in keeping me on AAR. Thanks to the folks at the NET who generated thousands of emails from thier legions of activists. Thanks also to the dailykos and Atrios and Liberaloasis and crooksandliars and all the bloggers out there who helped spread the word.

announcement on the flip!

That is what they call in the radio business a tease. Sorry, couldn't help myself. I will be moving to the network 9a-12p slot starting sometime in mid september. They're still working out the details of the launch.

Don't know what the show will be called as of yet. There is desire form the network for me to call it the Sam Seder Program or show or something like that-- supposedly it's a branding issue or some other crap. I am not terribly comfortable naming a show after myself because it bores me in one sense and probably because of deep seeded psychological issues. But more specifically, I am very attatched to the name Majority Report. It's what the first prototype of this show was called on one night in Feb. 2003 when Tom Scharpling gave me two hours on his Best Show on FMU. It has a two and a half year history which I shared with Janeane. Most importantly, I now associate it with you, our listeners and particularly our bloggers. So with all that said, we'll see... but, and I bold this so there is no doubts this blog will remain.

We're beginning to develop ideas for the new show- I don't think it will be radically different and any new developments that we make we will roll in. That said I do have a couple of surprises in mind.

I will give more updates later, but now I am on vacation! Thanks again for all your support and I won't let you guys down.

As if Al wasn't boring enough on his own, his "guest hosts" for next week will be putting the entire country to sleep.

Put Franken on at 1:00 AM where his show can do an actual public service to us insomniacs.

I love Al; I heard him speak at Democracy Fest. He seemed to be a very social, sweet, caring guy. He can be articulate and witty; he does very well when talking to people, after hearing their individual stories. And, he would act for the people if elected. That's it - he's a CANDIDATE.

He's o.k. as a radio personality; he's a moderate, though, and lack's Thom's passion and knowledge of thousands of facts.

For me, it's wake up to Stephanie Miller; Malloy on mp3 player on subway ride to work, Young Turks, Thom Hartman, Randi Rhodes, and Sam Seder during work; Malloy on return trip home; then a little Malloy lullaby as I try to go to sleep (not very sleep-inducing, I might add, but hey! 53. "We'll be alright." Mark Riley 11/4/04. I'll always love him for that
calm assurance (even though we are not really alright. Guess it depends on which prism you're looking through.) That heartbreaking moment, I was reminded of, in the words of Jerry Jeff Walker, "He looked at me to be the eyes of age as he spoke right out." Thanks, Mark.

49. From a West Coast XM Listener, this is a great change.
Sam in at 6:00 AM local time is an excellent move. A show I can actually WAKE UP to, so that much is great.

I'll rarely be up early enough to listen to the Young Turks, but I'm not so crazy about them, as one of them is a "former" Republican who said fairly recently that he still admired Poppy Bush. Sounds a little too Schultzy/DLC toolish to me. But as I said, I won't have to listen to the guy

As for the evening lineup changes of "Politically Direct" and "Eco Talk" that's also a good move because it lets me get away from the radio for a couple hours. Nothing against either show, but not a regular listener. It will be cool having Rachel on in the late afternoon, but I'm not sure why they didn't give her a three hour show and only add one of the others.

BTW, how does Mark Riley get up so early in the morning just to do a one hour show?

Well, Rachek Maddow has been the only morning host that has consistently pulled me away from NPR. I'll be sad to see her move to the evening (on the way home I listen to the ipod - music or podcasts depending on my mood).

Who are the "Young Turks"? I'll give them a chance, I guess.
