Sen. 'Macaca' Allen Gives A Direct Apology To Sidarth
This is actually the best description of the racist Allen's behavior I have seen.....

<snip>

Macaca is a genus of monkeys including macaques. The name also could be spelled Makaka, which is a city in South Africa. Sidarth said he felt Allen tried to single him out by race.

Sidarth recorded Allen, Webb's campaign posted the video on YouTube, and then the campaign alerted reporters. Within days, it became the dominant political story on network and cable news programs. Perhaps more damaging, it became grist for late-night talk shows and Comedy Central's "The Daily Show," with Jon Stewart.

<snip>

And wherever Allen goes, Black said, the video will be hard for Allen to shake because it shows him pointing to Sidarth and singling him out for derision, and because he smiled as he needled Sidarth, seemingly enjoying the moment.

<snip>

Allen tracked Sidarth down Wednesday at the University of Virginia where he had returned for senior year of classes and apologized to him personally, said campaign manager Dick Wadhams.

1. I'm convinced that the only reason he's...
got his tail tucked between his legs is because of the poll numbers. If he was still way ahead he'd be strutting around telling everybody to fuck off.

14. Agree. And someone needs to ask Felix ... WHY... he kept a noose in his ..
office hung on his wall like a plaque. Considering his love of the Confedearte flag, though he's from California and with these recent racist comments.... it's really time to inquire about his Noose.

3. I wonder if it was the classic "conservative" apology
"I'm sorry for what I said (IF) you were offended."

I'm not a betting man, but he'll fuck up again, guaranteed. Its genetic, of the genus republicanus assholuserectus.

9. not much of an explanation as to the exact words
Edited on Thu Aug-24-06 08:08 AM by leftchick
but I would bet you are right. these asshats are shameless....

<snip>

"Senator Allen made a heartfelt apology. He told Sidarth he thought he would see him on the campaign trail, but Sidarth had headed back to U.Va., so we Googled his name, found his number and the senator called him this morning," Wadhams said.

21. BINGO! Yes it was the CLASSIC CON-servative apology (link and text):
Virginia Sen. George Allen (R) apologized directly to S.R. Sidarth today, telling the 20-year-old Democratic campaign staffer that he was sorry for offending him with remarks that have generated nationwide criticism for being racially insensitive.

Allen's telephone call to Sidarth was the first direct contact between the two since Allen was caught by Sidarth's video camera calling him "macaca" and derisively welcoming the Fairfax native to "America and the real world of Virginia."

Deep in a hole, and Allen just keeps on digging!

24. NYT article started w/reference to a "perceived" insult,
and follows with a cite from Sidarth: ". . . he said he didn't realize how offended I was until he heard my comments from the media."

So, Allen's logic appears to be that a racist comment in and of itself isn't a problem, unless the insulted person becomes very offended. Nice transfer of responsibility, George.

5. Watch the video, Allen actually is taunting Sidarth and playing the
...crowd against the young reporter. I agree, Allen incriminated himself and an apology although warranted can not absolve this jerk of what he did. A law suite and criminal prosecution for a political hate crime is in order.

6. The guy is a middle school bully who hasn't grown up.
Regardless of the word he used, he was out to belittle the man to make some points among his like minded supporters.

If he felt he had to acknowledge the interloper, he *could* have said, "I am glad to have you here, perhaps we can sway you to our team." But he chose the bully route.

8. Doesn't matter that he apologized
He's still just as racist after the apology as he was before the apology. Making the apology meaningless. Sure, saying "I'm sorry" is the polite thing to do, but that doesn't mean the "I'm sorry" has any value.

I know I'm an odd-ball - I just as soon as people didn't waste time with an apology for a behavior they will continue to engage in...it's just a game in that case and it cheapens the words.

11. Why can we use the offensive term if he can't?
Edited on Thu Aug-24-06 08:18 AM by tuvor
I've seen what we all seem to agree is a racist term tossed about all too freely by people who are supposedly angry at Allen for, uh, using the very same term.

How is that not hypocritical?

We're not using it in a denigrating way.

12. Allen is sorry, then HE is not sorry, then HE is sorry again.........
and this is the kind of indecisive, wishy washy, racist 'entity' the rethugs want to present as a possible candidate for president??? The fact that this jerk is a senator is bad enough.

17. To be fair...
He first had to apologize and then have his campaign manager take back the apology before he could apologize again.

Flip-flopping takes time.

1 denial of non-apology and now this in person "sincere" apology. I expect another denial soon.
