http://www.thinkprogress.org/katrina-timelineI haven't heard much in the news today about Katrina or Katrina victims. Perhaps there have been reports and I have just missed them but I think it is unfortunate that their wasn't a real focus on the 1st anniversary of this disaster and the disaster of a Federal response that followed.
I am listening to some New Orleans music, jazz and blues...
How could this idiot lose an entire American city? The storm came with a WARNING for Pete's sake! I will never forget how traumatized I was an onlooker, an American watching in horror and waiting for the Federal Government - the same regime that boasted ONLY they could keep Americans safe - to do the right thing by "the least among us." Which they FAILED to do before the storm, during the storm and after the storm, even to this day!
I remember sitting in the hospital waiting room while my spouse was waiting to go into surgery that Friday, days after Katrina hit when nothing had been done for the people stuck there in New Orleans and hearing Mayor Nagin lash out at the incompetence of the authorities, a beautiful sound to me as I would have liked to scream out myself.
Anyway, today on this anniversary of Katrina my thoughts and prayers are with those hit by Katrina and with other American onlookers like myself. Best wishes for complete recovery from this trauma that we experienced.
PS Sorry ya'll, a fellow DUer pointed out to me that my timeline is off, my dates are wrong the storm was named a year ago today. I don't know why but Katrina is on my mind big time the last few days. My apologies for jumping the gun here.
